    Hello,

I recently wanted to adjust the date in my 168.005, but when I wanted to push the crown back into the case to normal position, I couldn’t. Somehow it got stuck.

Is there an easy fix for this? Or do I have to bring it to a watchmaker?

    Thanks,

    Roger

Definitely watchmaker. At a guess one of the springs in the keyless works is broken.

If it's a cal 564 the quick-set may have jammed.

I think you're right. Setting the watch during date change on some watches can be dangerous indeed.

Thank you. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself?

Does it stop now? Or still running?

It was not wound up and after it jammed the second hand moved about half a minute and then stopped.

I think you need the help of a watch maker.

Does anyone know if the watch has to be wound up and running before you change the date?

If you change the date by using the crown, the movement does not need running.

For future, I only ever quickset mine with the hour hand between 3 and 9 o’clock (on the 6 side) as I experienced a similar issue a few years ago.

The fact that you asked if there was anything you could do to fix it yourself, speaks volumes. Worth a try if you wish to convert a watch that needs the attention of a professional into a write off!

Sure you can do it yourself, first remove the hands, dial and then check to see which one was broken

Then you have to find the replacement part.
If you are lucky, the broken part is removed and it ticks again, if not you have to take everything apart and give it a clean some oil etc...
Hopefully, when you put them back together, it will run like before, if not ......
