after this was posted on the CBC website, my sister-in-law sent a note about how she was touring this building about 40 years ago with some nuns (don't ask) and they were all surprised when someone came out of a door and they briefly saw into the workspace.

May I suggest that before you go too far down that road that you join thesamba.com and start with the thread, "how far did you go before you broke down." Also, check the poll, "how often do you expect to break down?" Or "nobody's breaking down near me - what's wrong with you folks?"

If, after reading these and the many, many more threads on breaking down, you not only expect to break down, but look forward to breaking down, only then will you be ready for vee-dubs.

As they say, its not about the destination, its about the journey. The journey where you end up spending 90% of it walking to the nearest town to convince the local tow truck driver to go pick up your Beetle.

Or lose your headlights driving from Quebec to Portland, Oregon and get off at the next exit to hot wire your lights (after looking up the schematic in the Vanagon bible), only to get another 500 miles when you lose everything but first gear and get to the next exit where you rent a U-haul truck and trailer to load your DOKA (double cab Vanagon) and finish your trip, which you later consider a success because you made it home.

I did read it, a very small watchmaking school within a mostly jewellery school though. A sign of the times I guess.

Also a sign of the times, I was at a drugstore chain well known in western Canada, London Drugs, there was a lady at a table where for $22 you could get your watch battery replaced. Not surprisingly, there were a number of senior citizens, mostly women, literally lined up to pay that much for a two dollar battery to be changed. I felt like saying to the customers, you can buy these batteries for two dollars, and a case opener for a few bucks, just do it yourself. Then I remembered most people are not members of an online watch forum.
