Cuz I can't. Both archetypical of 1970's styling; both automatic; one slimmer than the other, but could also be less rugged; both on integral bracelets. Jumbo Patek: $110,000. Mint Omega 125, $3800. Go figure...
i have no dog in the fight. .and i think 100k is a big # for the patek. . but you are comparing one of the all time great watch designs by one of the all time greatest watch designers (genta) to something that is just a cluttered mess. and again..i own several speedmasters and currently own zero PP watches fwiw. . i see the 3700s all the time on the wrists of mega contemporary artists and dealers (the billionaire class). there is something about the aesthetic that has made it a classic. ..rightly or wrongly
Have them both, and the Patek is way over-valued here, and the Omega, undervalued. And yeah, I think I'll stick around...
why the ome since the patek has gone straight up pretty much continuously in the last decade and the speedmaster price hasn't (and likely won't ever) change. . you could have posted the same thing when the gap was 10k, 20k, 30k, etc. why not 100k ? you could post the same idea in the art world and the difference is millions not thousands. this isn't that complicated. . the price difference reflects supply and demand of each watch moving on. . .
Easy, there is no real comparison. The 125 is a boat anchor on the wrist and the ginger step child or black sheep of the Speedmaster family. I am no fan of the 1970s Genta excesses either to be honest but it is an iconic design. It worked so well on the AP RO he used it twice (granted with tweaks) so it must be good.
Yep I mean hold on let me find an image of a Rothko and then the splatter painting my 5 year old made this week .. How on earth can there be a 50 million dollar difference ???
A Steel Patek Ref.5980 cost in 2010 around 30K. Today it costs 90K. This watches (Nautilus) are not more a hobby and enjoyment. Only investment and unbelievable prices...
That's pretty much stating the obvious. Sometimes price differentials are due to a perceived qualitiative difference, like the workmanship, or sublime details that render an item incredibly desirable. My estimation is that the difference is mostly brand hype, not much more.
to me the difference in cost between these two watches is a moot point as a watch must first satisfy (me) how it looks (esthetics) and the PP fails (me) in that regard, so (my) attention is grabbed by the 125 .. and thus the Omega becomes (my) preference.
