Can you recommend a strap for this watch? [Girard-Perregaux]

I have this Girard-Perregaux alarm watch that was my grandfather's. It had an old black Hirsch lizard strap that I was not crazy about (tapered down too much for my taste), so I changed it to this current calf leather strap. Unfortunately I don't think I like it all that well as it looks a little plain, but I don't want anything too busy either. Is there a strap you can recommend? Similar style watches with pictures is greatly appreciated as well.

A simple black shell Cordovan with 2 cream colored stitch would look great on this I think. I have one from @jankoxxx on my grandfathers watch here. Shell Cordovan is a joy to wear. It’s thin, comfortable, and develops its own patina over time.

For me, the brown/cream hues of a patina'd cream dialed vintage watch always seems to look best on a brown strap. I'd suggest a strap similar to the one you have, but in a darker brown calf or a very light tan. Attached picture is not mine, stole it off Google's image search..

If it were my watch I'd go for a matte or glossy genuine crocodile strap, black or brown, or both. They're not cheap but since this watch has a special provenance, it seems worthwhile to class it up as much as possible. And it would be fun to try to track down an OEM buckle that's appropriate for the age of the watch :)

Jwit, that cream stitch really ties (hah) it all together with the color of the indices and especially the dial text.

Good idea about shell cordovan. That cream stitch looks sharp. Thanks for the recommendation.

I agree! Thanks for sharing this picture. Looking back at my watch, it is more silver than shown in the pictures. It would still probably look good with brown though.

I agree... crocodile would look good. I like that texture better than lizard too. Good idea about searching out an OEM buckle! You've got me another fun project now, thanks. ;)

This would look strange on a deployant, right? The watch is 34mm.

I would go for something plain black leather as the watch is the star.
    ( and I am a Bit older than @Jwit )

    Picture just for style.

I find the black strap of the OP is too dominating for the watch. The black is too black and it also looks very thick.
I like a thinner tan lizard strap with early '60's dress watches.
My Connie has a gold finish case but the dial is silver.

I like that one better than mine, thanks. Perhaps the buckle on mine is partially what bugs me. It feels too large for the watch.

    What is OP?

There is something to be said about keeping the strap in like with the period of the watch. I like that idea. I believe this is from the mid-1960s. Lizard was more common then and looks great on yours.

i would probably go with a nice textured tan calfskin strap. that hermes style leather. atelier romane in france has a nice selection. here's a pic of my white faced explorer ii on one. IMG_7180.JPG
