Hello, I have this watch I particularly like, with his original box and an incredibly crispy 12.68z movement dating it back to 1947. I'm new to Longines but passion beats hard. I have some problems identifying the case, with its beautiful double angles, I can read 23801 and 119, but also 47 (the year?) and a 2. I know that before 1950s Longines had these "unofficial" 5 digits cases beside normal 4 digits cases... Any help will be much appreciated, thank you! View attachment 695706 View attachment 695707
The serial number (on the movement) dates the watch closer to 1949 than 1947. 23'801 is known as the order number. There are often multiple orders within a single reference (case design). 119 is the individual number of this case within order 23'801. The reference number (4 digits) of this case can be obtained by contacting Longines with photos and the serial number. The significance of the 47 (not the year of production) and 2 that appear is not widely known.
That's very interesting. I read 7.650.625, do I read correctly? So we can say that there's NO reference number stamped here, right?.
Nice watch! 1947 is more in the 7,2 mill range. Here is a reply from Longines regarding a watch in my collection. Also, Longines did not start to use applied hourglass logo until the very late 40`s early 50`s I believe.
Yes, it looks like more 1948-1949. I also have the original box. The challenge is to find the reference number...
