Can there be a "complete" collection?

Hey guys!
I know, the some will smirk now and some will think what the heck?! But i am asking out of a reason. I started collecting watches about 10 years ago with a Panerai Luminor Base Titan. I love this watch not because its my first one. But over the years I got more and more in love with Omega or lets say with the Speedmaster.
Having a look on a watch lets me decide in a few seconds if I like it or not. The Alaska was my holy grail since the first glimps on it and the TinTin is as well extremely tempting... If i had bought them at the time I saw them first I would have payd less then half the price for both 😉 Beside the Alaska I have a 1863, a DSOTM and a white Albino Reduced since a few days... As the TinTin is the last model I chased a few time but didn't pull the trigger -> I did it just now and orderd one!
Now I have a significant feeling of satisfaction without a real "goal"...
I know this feeling a bit from my last sporty goal - running a Marathon under a target time - I did it and now I am satisfied since 3 years and this is the longest perio without any sporty goal ever... I am still happy!
Curious if this will stay the same with the watch passion 😉
Has anyone else made it our of the vortex of buying watches?

"Can there be enough money" might be the question that answers your question?

Only way out of the vortex is death, the ultimate escape.

i don't agree fully... maybe i do in a year or so, but now I feel like "yeah, thats my collection and there is nothing to add that would make it better" (This is just mho because my collection is quite small but fine for me 😉

I set a limit of 12 watches. If I acquire one above that limit, one has to go. If I drop below 12, as I did recently when I sold my Sub, I will replace it (this time with a Muhle Glashutte).

thats a cool approach! I wasn't able to sell one since now... I count only 10 though 😉

If you are satisfied with your watches and not interested in hunting for more, then I would say you're not actually a collector. Just a happy watch owner. 😁

I believe it's only possible to achieve a complete collection in the context of a single reference/model. For example, I own three Omega SM600s and feel like that's enough. Maybe one more, two at most... well, a white technical dial looks cute too... dammit.

Well, it depends how many times you want to split the atom. I am constantly saying I am done, then I find another variant of a brand I collect and need to get that, which leads me to a sub-catagory of another brand which I need to collect, which then leads me to an entirely new style of watch that I have to collect….

Collecting watches might be equated to dining at a buffet. But your consumption at the buffet is limited to the size of your stomach, and watch collecting is limited to the size of your wallet. But there is always more choice than you can have at one sitting, so you always go back.

My pace of acquisition has definitely slowed down, but it's definitely not zero and probably won't ever be. I know what I'm looking for and I'll buy it when I see it, but it's more of a "I don't know what's out there and what I know is out there I already have or am not interested in owning" type thing.

I think interest in watches is contagious. As I interact with other collectors, my interests expand to styles and brands of watches that didn't interest me previously.

I have recently narrowed my focus, but I'm just currently not in the market for a new watch (in research mode). I've also ditched the concept of "exit watch" or "completing the collection". It's a fun hobby, so ending the hobby is not part of the plan.

Yeah, that's not me 😀. I have a pretty narrow focus of watches that I want to spend money on, but that doesn't take away from the fun of seeing watches at shows and meetups and listening to people talk about their watches and what interests them.
