i recenetly purchased an automatic vintage omega deville watch from ebay for $400. I went to the watch shop to check its authenticity and the guy told me the movement is genuine but he said he was unsure about the dial and the crystal. It looks like a deville dynamic to me from the engraving on back of the watch casing but the dial does not seem to match up. Do u guys think this dial is a fake or perhaps another dial from a different omega watch??

The dial has been refinished, that is, re-painted

Yes, it appears to be an Omega dial but it is not original, since it has been refinished.

The paint is the important part. Without that, it's just a round piece of metal.

I think he feels you may be missing the point. The original paint is everything, it's the art, it's the soul. The piece of metal dial is no different than the artists' canvas.
If you took the Mona Lisa and stripped all the paint off and repainted it, technically, you still have in your possession the Mona Lisa, but the art and the artists' soul is destroyed, reduced to a pile of material.
This is how collectors feel about repainted dials. We mourn what has been lost.

It is an authentic piece of metal, it is no longer an authentic original dial and it has greatly diminished value for itself and the watch it is on.
I don't know how to say it any plainer.

Yes. There, you heard what you wanted to hear because you don't seem to be listening to what we're saying. [IMG] I'm going to teach my dog algebra now - with probably the same result.

The base paint freshness vs the markers and hands condition. The overthick scripts. Incorrect script.

...and yes after comparing with many original Omega dials

    Yes, comparing to original.

    And.

A few years of studying variations of fonts, weights (thickness), positions, word combinations, and a Spidey sense help a bit.

This example has heavy print, ekspecially in the Geneve and DeVille, and the T-Swiss Made-T should signify tritium hands and markers, I can't see any tritium markers, so should only have one T (correct me if wrong please).

I'm still a learner compared to some of the folks here so their advice is essential BEFORE jumping in.

(NOTE: ekspecially is an Aussie word)

    Nice avatar, D!

Let's see. Seller of watch in Turkey. Buyer of watch in Turkey. Watch is a turkey.

    Quite appropriate,
