Yea, I've made it through life with no catastrophic toilet failures and I'm even an Australian. I think we do need to know what you did to cause so much dunny destruction.

I just got back from Australia. Didn't see any issues with the toilet failures haha.

In all seriousness I am really looking forward towards the Omega deployment bands for the DSOTM collections coming out this fall. I think that will help with some of the dropping fears. They just feel so much more secure taking on and off then the current buckles. Looks better too.

I could see taking a hammer to a toilet in Australia under certain circumstances...

Lets just say fraternity and alcohol was involved. One was my fault and the other someone else's lol.
One incident a frat brother was trying to get into the bathroom to play a joke on me and I pressed my feet up against the door to stop him and the pressure caused the entire tank to explode. The other I was pretty buzzed lat at night after a patter trying to fix a stuck plunger inside the tank and dropped the lid on the floor.

I have first hand knowledge that way back when, a cherry bomb firecracker would explode in the water of a porcelain fixture and cause it to shatter into many many pieces........and no......it wasn't a hate crime.......no one went to jail......etc. (the good old days)

When I read that you broke a ceramic toilet in college, I was sitting on a ceramic toilet in college.

About 10% a year. so for the Patek 4G year 333 month 11 dollars a day give or take.... although the 10% is usually for under 25g value. something like a patek for 40g I assume carries a larger premium.

That's extremely expensive. You should be looking around 1% or less for cover.

That's what I was thinking. $300/month for watch insurance on a single watch seems outrageously expensive.

well, on a 40G watch. on a 4 g watch it would be 30 dollars.

Let's see...what is the insurance on a 40000 car or Home or diamond? Do you really think someone is going to insure a 40000 Patek for 1% of it's value? sure give them 30 bucks a month and they will insure you for 40G! Maybe I'm of. If so I should really look into insuring my entire collection and setting fire to my house.

Guys, don't drop your watches and there is nothing to worry about really.

I wish I would have read this post three days ago, lol. I dropped this one when I was taking it off. Fell straight down with face parallel to the floor. Thought for sure the crystal was going to shatter. I will take this to the local watchmaker next week, and hopefully no damage.

To answer your question Yes i do believe you can get insurance for less than 1% of it's value.

My household policy covers unspecified personal possessions upto the value of £5k. That covers one of my watches a Breitling Avenger, value about £4k.

I then have the following specified on my policy:

AP ROO £18.5k
Omega DS £7.5k
GS £8k
Daytona £8k

That's £46k of watches insured plus my wifes diamond rings of about £20k
Plus my house building and contents and I pay £1400.00 pa for cover totalling well in excess of £1m, going on your proviso that would be over £100k pa to insure. Who's got that sort of money to cover insurance?

You definitely need to look at your insurances. If you're based in England get your cover with Sterling Insurance who deal with high nett worth individuals.

I have many of my watches insured under a personal articles policy connected to my home owners insurance, costs me about 1.4%, but covers everything including "mysterious disappearance". There is cheaper, but the lowest I could find in the USA was about 1.2%

Check wilful damage too, a mate had a payout on his car voided due to the damager being his former partner. I've always had nightmares about pissing off a girlfriend and coming home to this:

Good to know. I actually don't have insurance so was going on a quote made some time ago...I guess I'm remembering wrong but that's what I always thought. At some point I'll look into it.

Wilful damage is not covered in any policy.. I.e. if you take a hammer to your watch in a fit of rage and admit to it later, you are not coved.

Not to bring this thread back to life, but speaking of watch insurance, does anyone recommend one in particular?

I seriously think I might insure my Speedy.
