Can it hold up for 50 years no service?

Is a 50 year service interval possible in the real world? How long can DLC coated components last?

I Iove Panerai and regret selling my Pam 111 in 2010. However, I am not a fan of 50M water resistance in newer models.

On a side note I miss my DeVille, it is still being serviced can’t wait to pick it up from the boutique.

Water resistance fir one is unlikely to last that long unless tha case is hermetically sealed. with copper crush washers etc.

In short: IMO No.

The solution is simples - get another.

One on, one in the wash or, if you have a title, an heir and a spare 😉

Also the dlc coating I doubt will last 50 years on movement components

Well, the DLC coating that Omega used on the barrels of the 8500/8900 and 9300/9900 series ended up being quite problematic. The coating reacted with the barrel arbor material, causing what Omega called "brown wear" and the solution was to cut the coating back away from the barrel arbor - removing it from the wear point. Other then on the inner wall where the mainspring makes contact, the coating is just decoration now.

Few years back in 2014 I had a Seamaster DeVille cal 562 serviced for the first time since new in ‘62, owner had kept wearing it from then until 2014 when it stopped which was more than 50 years. Then I had a mate with a PAM321 that couldn’t go a month without needing service until it was finally fixed. It wasn’t fixed by Panerai and they blamed him for the defective movement claiming he dropped it every time. Wonder if they will actually honor the 50 years.

Interesting, I remember reading about issues Omega had with DLC.

Good point, it is not a cheap watch by any means. The dial colour is stunning though.

I’ve heard of people having watches their whole life and not needing a service. I love Panerai and have owned several.

Not needing a service or not getting one?

I've known people who ran their ICE cars for years and years without needing a service.
