Just bought a SM300 with the 166 case (watchco/nos/remake/whatever you want to call it). One this that has bothered me when comparing to original is the length of the crown. I find it too long. Did a bit of digging and it seems they changed the crown over time. ofrei has the older shorter one for sale as well: Genuine Omega Crown White/Steel Bestfit 8100/1075 My question is: can I swap in a shorter crown? any reason why this is a bad idea? any insight is greatly appreciated.
I believe both crowns have matching tubes so you'd need to change both items. The screw down crown is MUCH more waterproof.
A few years back I had an SM300 built up by STS using all new parts plus a donor movement. During the build they changed the crown to the shorter Naiad crown which I too prefer. As mentioned above the crown tube had to be changed at the same time.
for the 1660234 case is 9 x Ø6.40mm Screwdown SS (5.05mm) which looks like this: the existing screw down pendant case tube is Omega 090ST4034 on the 166024 the two options-info-numbers are as follows: Code: 42028ST Tap 9 (Ø0.90mm) Crown Ø6.70mm Crown Depth 3.15mm Pendant Tube Ø2.50mm Stainless Steel Code: 42062ST Tap 9 (Ø0.90mm) Crown Ø6.40mm Crown Depth 5.05mm Screwdown Pendant Case Tube, Non- Screwdown Version is Omega 090ST9002 Stainless Steel you will have to change the pendant case tube ( I wouldnt do it, the 166024 case has different dimensions to the 1660324, at the moment the case will be more water tight with the screw down crown ) hope this is what you are after
