Calling the blue Rolex OP a “Tiffany Dial” is just pure fraud yet it’s working

It really does blow my mind that

A). Rolex grey market dealers are that completely dishonest and scummy that they’re still selling these as “Tiffany dials” or “Tiffany blue” when it has nothing even remotely to do with Tiffany at all

B). The market is stupid enough to pay this much money for a dial that is clearly a sky blue colour and not Tiffany blue to begin with, has no relation to Tiffany, and is probably being heavily faked on other colour OPs now that the price is this high.

To some extent I actually hope some of these guys get burned on these as there’s too much stupid money from stupid people floating around at the moment.

They also sell the Green subs as "Hulks", the blue/black GMT as "Batman", the red/blue GMT as "Pepsi" and no buyer thinks they are associated with those characters or soft drink. They are nicknames and I would bet 90% of the consumers of these products are familiar with them.

You’ve kind of missed the point entirely there. There are actual Tiffany dial Rolexes, it’s not a random nickname it’s an actual brand that co-sign dials. These are not actual Tiffany dials or anything even remotely related to that. It’s just straight lying for the sake of driving the price up after the Nautilus.

LVMH is a huge luxury company with an army of lawyers, if they see this as copyright infringement worth worrying about they will take action. I don't get excited about these sorts of descriptors

The public is mislead all the time, it's called advertising. And let's not get started on politicians, they lie for a living.

Yeah, if this watch was selling at 50% discount Tiffany & Co may not like it, but at a 10X and higher markup they will probably live with the association.

"Tiffany blue" is a specific Pantone color that Tiffany &Co defends with extreme litigiousness. They've clearly decided that the Rolex turquoise dial is either

    a) not close enough to worry about, or
    b) that Tiffany & Co is not hurt enough by the association to be worth litigating.

Either way, I don't think it's worth us plebes getting het up about.

But they’re not blue and not 41mm so I guess not as hype worthy… Still prefer mine, though.

    Those prices are outrageous.

I paid less than half of that for my Tiffany blue Doxa. ::psy:: I do wish the "Tiffany" embossed on the dial had been printed in a contrasting color - it's very difficult to see.

I have a friend who paid 30k for one of these. When I say friend I guess he is more like a “watch acquaintance” but a really nice guy. He has too much money I fear and always feels the need to tell me “I don’t like watches with dates cause I don’t need to know the date.” I mean if the date doesn’t matter maybe the time isn’t that important either. But he was happy. And he did use “Tiffany” when telling me about it. I would probably pick one up but I have my Tiffany seiko which keeps me happy.

I would wager a guess that many of these "dealers" are too ignorant to appreciate this distinction.

And I would further wager that many buyers are after this hard to obtain color, and also do not appreciate the distinction.

The subset of dealers/buyers that are actual enthusiasts is probably small. So Im not too worried about earnest buyers being bamboozled.

I don’t get a whole lot of watch content on my Instagram “featured” page but after visiting this page earlier today, I saw this…

…nothing like editing the hue of blue to ensure it resembles something it never was in the first place. #sad&pathetic

Perhaps I live in a different timeline, but In mine the PP Nautilus was released several months after the Rolex OP and the Rolex was already being sold for stupid money and nicknamed the “Tiffany” dial.

Not disagreeing with you that people are stupid to buy it at the prices they are, but the Instagram influencers named it a “Tiffany” dial well before PP released their watch, not the sellers.
