Three of us do this display. Two of us own all the watches. Each of we three own one of the clocks. The event is sponsored by the Calgary Model Railroad Society. The event is the biggest in Canada, drawing participants from as far east as Thunder Bay, Ontario and as far west as British Columbia. Takes place in Calgary. Pictures. With 90 pocket watches, where would I start!

A couple observations. It has a stylized locomotive on the dial. That tells me that is about 0.05% likely it is a railroad watch. Those hands tell me likewise. There was a time when a railroad standard pocket watch could be in a hunter case with Roman numerals. But the ornate trim around the edge of the case tells me that this is a modern wannabe fake railroad standard with a cast base metal case. Now, your question! What IS it? No idea!

The special order Winchester Model 1873 is pretty cool though.

An unadorned original standard Winchester Model 1873 24-inch barreled rifle in .38 WCF lives here. It's pretty accurate for what it, its original equipment sights, and its cartridge is. This is a 100 yard five-shot group from the bench rest, accomplished on a windy day, hence the Speedmaster and other items holding down the target for photography purposes. I wish I'd been into pocket watches when the photograph was taken. I could have used a pocket watch as a weight.

G-morning, can anyone of the PWB please identify this pocket-watch? And is the watch from that period?

It's a lever set, you can see the lever by the 5 o'clock. I'm willing to bet it's something like an 18s Elgin, probably from the 1890s.

Just back from my Watchmaker after a glass change, not serviced but has great amplitude and running very well.
In exceptional condition for its age according to my watchmaker who usually insists they will need a service, he was quite happy to let this one go out the shop unserviced.

Nice nickel case, all I have done is wiped it down with a silver cloth.

This is a nice looking display 馃憤. I imagine that you get a few people developing an interest in pocket watch ownership by looking at and talking about all those watches

Chapter III: Good Ol' Omega

My pocket watch story has now entered Omega territory! PW circa 1951, 0.800 silver case. I really like those rose gold hands that match the case plating.

Many Swiss watches of that era have the gold plated finish on coin silver. The treatment is called gallone. Cases decorated like this pop up here from time to time. The table I referred to indicates circa 1950. One definition of the word gallone that I read indicated it is a gold decorated braid applied to uniforms (military?). Nice addition.
