Get that Hamilton if you can. That's a good price and that is a clean looking watch.

Agreed, the 992b looks good! Even the bow seems nice and tight still. The Model 11 case is the best design IMO, the stylized speeding train wheels are totally charming. Great price too

Welcome to the 992B club! Next, maybe an Elgin grade 571 B W Raymond which is the Elgin equivalent to the Hamilton 992B.

Wouldn’t have pulled the trigger without the valuable input from @Canuck @Waltesefalcon and @DaveK Thanks for helping me sort through the thought process! I’m excited to have it!

Got it.
Congratulations! I think you did good.

Welcome to the 992 club. I'll have to respectfully disagree with Dave, I think the BOC is Hamilton's prettiest case.

@Canuck is right, the Elgin 571 B.W. Raymond is a good watch to compliment your 992B.

However, I personally, would look for an Illinois Bunn Special.

Once in a while, lands in your midst a watch that is given to you. I became the fourth owner of this watch, the first three of whom didn’t want it! It was given to me! Compared to the watches that have been discussed in the past half dozen posts, this one is an orphan! Orphans often pass through the hands of astute collectors, but because it is an orphan, nobody moves on it. It is a Swiss-made Electa, by Gallet (three strokes against it) and it is a private label (unrecognizable Canadian retailer, another stroke against it!) But if you allow yourself to be led by the nose based on what everyone else collects, it is possible to miss out on a watch like this. The dial name is Porte & Markle, Winnipeg. Hardly a grail watch. But I love it! Be on the lookout for watches like this. Now to complete the story. This watch passed through at least three sets of hands with a 10-karat gold chain on it that weighed over half an ounce, and was worth about $500.00! I gave the chain back to the guy who gave the watch to me!

Another one I got for free. English, 1884, private label for Stuart Dawson, Liverpool, key wind, key set, on a sterling silver chain that weighed over66 grams. Passed over by the same three people before it came to me! Had it given to me by the same guy I got the Electa from. He didn’t get this chain back!

@Canuck I love both dials - great design 👍 ( I confess, not a pocket-watch (-movement)-expert 😉 )

I have a similar design (of the 9) on my Dodane:

I can show you the 7 and 5 - you the 12 😁

My grandfather, who died before I was born, was a career railroad man. I know little of what job or which railroad. My dad also worked on the railroad for a few years before attending college at UNC. Sadly, I can’t ask him either. Trains have, I guess for that reason, always struck a chord with me. I am hopeful this watch resonates with me when I receive it. Serial number puts it at 1943 if the pocket watch database is correct. @Duracuir1 Steve’s lanyard will have a new watch to anchor in my pocket soon.

I know this is a pocket watch forum, but we are on the subject of trains at the moment. The Tallulah Falls Railway ran through my hometown. I have collected railroad spikes from the defunct (and tree-laden) rail line. I’ve also, from time to time, have photographed train related subjects. Here are a couple of which I’m especially fond. That 992b is going to have a grand time in its new home.

When checking out rail lines, take a peek at the side of the rails where you can find maker’s marks, patent info and other goodies

My leatherwork hammer that I made this summer from a spike

And if anyone complains about railway stuff, remember that railways are always watch related 😁
