Okay, I’ve been a member here for quite some time and have been around watches since I got my first Timex on my 8th birthday.

Still, age is never a substitute for experience and insight.

Last summer I bought this watch on Etsy (yes, I know) and was fairly confident that it had come from Japan via Pakistan, not least because the dial model number and caseback model number were clearly different.

I paid around £50, and for that the watch was fine and ideal for dog walking and chores.

However, after not wearing it for a while, I couldn’t advance the day. The date was changeable in the usual way and, I wore it as a complete beater that kept good time.

By chance, today, I pushed in the crown and, hey presto, the day advanced correctly.

So, now realise I’m not the sharpest tool in my watchmaker’s toolbox - or anyone else’s for that matter 😳

Dial model number and caseback number should be the same for the first four figures (caliber 7009).

The last four numbers on the caseback denote the model reference, the last four numbers denote the dial reference.
A specific case can have a number of different dials.

The 7009 changes date by pushing the crown (quick set) but the day must be done by rotating the hour hands past 23:59.
You may have pressed the crown just as day/date actions were in progress.

My process for this caliber is to quickset the date to yesterday (make sure the hour hand is well past date change time, e.g. 06:00).
Then set the day to yesterday by using the hour hand going past 23:59 until the day flips over, reverse back to 21:00 and fwd again , repeat until yesterday shows, then use the hour hand setting to advance to the current time and date.

Nice little beater Rob, that dial must jump in the sunlight.

Nice watch. While I have not owned a 7009 watch I have seen several videos describing quickset day advancing with push of crown as described by OP. Have you been able to change the day again by pushing crown, or only one time?

No, it’s working fine and was entirely my mistake for forgetting the advance. My other regular Seiko 5 has a 7s26 movement and I also have a couple of 7005s, so all a little different - hence my embarrassment at forgetting 😮

Thanks for the advice and, you’re absolutely right about it being a nice little beater although, digging out my photos when I bought it, I see I paid £65 not £50.

And you’re also absolutely right about the dial jumping in the sunlight - at least it did when the seller posted photos that he must have shot in very bright light.

Fun story there with the day thing!

I had a similar problem with my 7009-3150.
It had both in English and in German, and I had no clue how to do...
But I pressed in the crown once, and it changed, once again and it changed to the different language!
😀😀🙄🙄

Yep, my options are English or what I think might be Arabic? 😬

Spencer Klein is a big fan of the 7009 calibre. It has mostly metal inside, with very little plastic parts (if any).

After reading your post I got out this 7019-6000 that I was struggling with changing day, and lo and behold it has the same day quickset by pushing in the crown- just like yours! Here is the photo after I got in all synched up. Then I decided it was so much fun I went for another round of day change and then dislocated the day wheel- such that the day only partially is visible in top of window.
So now I need to take off the dial and fiddle with the day change wheel/gear which apparently gets loose easily on these Seikos.
So the happiness was short lasting.😒

You are not too stupid if you got that watch for £50!

Quite nice in blue.
