I recently purchased a Connie that likely has a 501 or 505. I will know when it goes to watchmaker soon.

I have a 470 movement I was planning on selling on the Bay. Are there enough interchangeable parts for future use on a 501/505 that I should consider keeping it as a donor?

Or should I just look for the exact caliber for a spare?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to reply!

There's a lot of similarity, but for usability I would ask @Archer

The 470 is smaller than the 501/505, so obviously the main plate, most of the bridges and the rotor are different. The drive train all the way to the balance is the same.

Whether it's better to keep keep the 470 or look for a spare 501/505 I can't tell. I'd look for the correct caliber.

BTW, shouldn't the Constellation, if being a chronometer, have a 504 or 505 instead?

    Thanks

I likely will just sell it and look for the proper caliber. According the Desmond the rotor wind on the 501/505 frequently wears out.

I think the 2852 Connie can have either the 501 or 505 chronometer movement.

Both 504 and 505 were chronometre spec and used in Constellations. Overall not so many 504s Constellations were ever made, about 25,000. 501 usually came with none date watches..
