I have a 1960 Cal 504 Constellation which is running perfectly and keeping very good time. The date function is working and it is faultless apart from needing a crown and the dial shows signs of age. Not sure whether it is possible to clean the dial to improve it slightly and keep it original or to have a dial restoration done. I'd be happy to have the two larger stains removed if that's possible. Does anyone know a good watch man who could do this as I'm reluctant to go down the restoration route. Lastly, should the crown have ten sides to it for this model. The serial no. is 17091293. By the way, this is the first watch I've seen with an intact rubber seal.

I think it's been redialled at least once already. The "M" in automatic and chronometer are different.

The dial is original and you should leave it the way it is.
An old watch should have patina like that and I love it.

Is it common for the M's to be different between Automatic and Chronometer?

I'm no expert on these, but would like to know.

Thanks for that all of you, I'll look into te M's....hadn't noticed it. If it's already been refurbished then I'll get it done again, if it's original I'll leave well alone, Thanks again

There are so many variations thru the years and models that you should master before you can confirm its a redial or not.
    Here are a few

Looks too good and fine text for a re- furb......just found these on very high priced Constellations on ebay, they're the same but others have two 'slanted' m's as opposed to vertical......can anyone clear this up? Also, some have "chronometre" and others have "chronometer"..... is this normal?

    They're both redials.

Edit-referring to the ones you found on eBay.

such a basic mistake to make.....I wish I knew who redialled mine as apart from the m's, assuming you're right, it is a brilliant and fine job. Even under a magnifier the text is fine and perfectly even unlike many I've seen.

I think Hoi posted an original with the two different M's. If Hoi and x350_xjr say original, then that's good enough for me.

Your dial is completely original. The ones you found from ebay are redial.

Your dial's patina is oxidation of the lacquer layer and cannot be cleaned without a huge risk of making it worse or destroy it. It doesn't look too bad now and best to leave it alone.

Thanks TNT..........I'm sure you're right about mine being original but why the different m's? I'd love to find someone who could reproduce the dial text as fine as the original.....so far and up to tonight I've learned how to tell the difference between the refurb text and original but the m's still confuse me.

Why don't you google "omega constellation 504" and see them for yourself?

Like Hoi said, their are many variations with the fonts on Constelations and probably as many reasons why. But all the dome dials for cal. 504 have exactly the same type as yours.

Good thing your is original. You can study more at the best online resource for Constellations here: http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com.
