Wading in the deep end, again. Circa 1954 bumper. Love the sharp line angels. I used a smidgen of SimiChrome to get somebody else's grime off my watch. Original? I think so. Crown maybe not. Seems to have the "fat" omega symbol. I think I can see the Big Dipper in the design of the patina. That just may be me, though. So, original? Comments on condition?
Looks nice to me, and original like you say. Case is really sharp and that dial style is one of the very best. Wouldn't worry about the crown, the original type isn't available and that's the best match. Big dipper you say? Well it is a Constellation I suppose...
Thanks. Yes, I love the case style of these early Constellations, and this one has not been handled/buffed/polished much over 60 years. Do you know if the two tone of the dial is original or did it age this way? Also, as to the markers.... I've seen it described as "diamond shaped" and " arrowhead shaped". Is there a consensus on the correct description? And now on the NATO strap I had awaiting for such a watch when it crossed my path. I love how the camera captured the overhead tree branches and sky in these pictures. Very overcast today.
Very nice Connie. One of my favorite model. The markers are also my fave. Few names of the markers, arrowhead is the most common around here. As for the dial, it is two tone from the beginning. Mine says hello
Thanks for the comments, now for a technical question. What would be the most likely cause of a cal 354 movement being difficult to wind when jump starting the movement? It's not grinding on anything, just very difficult but not impossible to wind. My cal 344 bumper is not, but it has been to my watchmaker. Supposedly cleaned, oiled and regulated prior to sale. Times accurately. Just curious, it will go to my watchmaker soon, anyway.
If all else is OK, the most likely cause is that dratted decagonal crown, which looks great but is hopeless to use. And sometimes, if a new crown has been fitted, the inner seal can be a bit tight on the pendant tube. I find a tiny smidgeon of silicon grease on the seal helps.
Omega crystal and ring are in order for this watch at COA. Silver ring or gold tension ring? What are your opinions?
In my opinion, the silver tension ring is correct for a steel case, gold dial furniture notwithstanding.
Compare and decide which one you prefer. Same watch (SS case with gold dial hardware) gold ring and silver ring
http://omega-constellation-collectors.blogspot.com/ How comprehensive and up to date is this database? I saw this link on another thread, went to see if mine was there, and there was not a ref 2782 in SS listed.
