For educational purposes, I'd love to hear comments on the following watch, already sold (and not to me). Redial? I don't recall too many three digit reference numbers either. Final price was $6500 - good deal or no? http://www.ebay.com/itm/VERY-RARE-H...9aAwt22AOsFmNHi9ouKcg%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
I really don't know on this one. The case reference of 987 does match to a cal 33.3 chronograph movement: http://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-watches-database?ref=25880 These were made beginning in 1939, but this one has an 11.0M serial number. Late 1940's maybe? I found a watch with a very close serial number. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=204404 Dial seems older, but anything is possible. gatorcpa
Could be legit... what disturbs me a bit is the fact of Ref 987 iteration "1" combined with this high movement# Secondly: the dial looks original except the Omega logo and wording - these most likely have been reprinted. Why? 1) color is much deeper 2) Omega logo too big and positioned too high 3) Omega word has a "shadow" at it´s end - most likely the original word was faded and has been re-printed but position is slightly off just my 2 cent
Just yesterday i mentioned about a nickel finish 320 caliber... The movement is in the 10 mill range. Last evening a pretty rare Omega ref. 2277-2 Cal. 27 Chro C12 T2 PC sold on ebay. The movement is also in the 10 mill range. Finally, the OP 33.3 The movement is in the 11 mill range. Interesting fact is that all these movements are in nickel finish and sold probably in the same period, ca. 1946-1947. /F
The fact that the OP´s movement is nickel finish does not say anything about it´s authenticity as most of the 33.3 are nickel finished (except the very first ones which where yellow gold finished) in contrary to 27 Chro (aka 320 and 321) where the early ones where silver or nickel plated and the younger ones copper colored...
Indeed, but the interesting fact is the close serial range for all 3. Again, Omega was offering all these movements in the same time.
