I recently bought these 2 Omega watches, and I would be very grateful if someone could tell me why 1 has a "B" inscribed over the caliber nº and the other doesn't. I am going to have them serviced and I would also like your opinion as to the crowns and dial hands, are they original? If not should I try to get originals and have them changed. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thank you.
The first one has a big problem which makes it not worth the cost of repair -- its dial is refinished. (also you can see the hands are mismatched). The second one appears to have a lovely dial, perhaps you should show a close up of the Omega signature on the front just to be sure. Repair is not going to be cheap as they're missing what is considered to be the central part of a watch movement, which is the balance. And it looks like they could be missing other parts. I don't know much about those calibers so could not tell you how expensive or hard to find a balance would be. You will probably need to buy a donor movement to get some parts. And you'll have labor costs. The repair might exceed the value of the watch, depending on its size. Also you should verify whether the case is stainless steel or chromed. That may impact whether the cost exceeds the ultimate value of the watch. Best regards, S
Hi, First one is a CK615. Here in a 1940 catalog Mine says hello : As Syrte said, yours has a redone dial and non matching hands. The second one is a CK793. Here in a 1936 catalog : Mine says hello : Yours has a very nice and well preserved dial, I would need a better picture of the crown to give an opinion. Could you also post pictures of the Inside of the casebacks so we can try to date them? By the way, DIBS on the second one (CK793)
You should see some of his other watches, simply amazing. I made the mistake of meeting Yann and some of his collection, it wasn't until then that I knew the true meaning of the word 'envy' .
Thank you for all your help. They are both working and I have the balances, they were removed to permit viewing of the movement nº. They are going to be serviced for precautionary reasons.
You should be aware that servicing the first one is somewhat of a waste, unless you really love it. Because its dial is refinished It's only worth parts. I have, I have, they were all sumptuous -- and I want to see more! (luckily I can enjoy seeing them without envy because my brand of choice is Longines )
