Hello,

Recently purchased a 1999 2531.80 which was serviced in mid 2019 by Omega. The watch hasn't been worn much since then until I picked it up late last week. Since I have started wearing it daily, it has been 20 seconds fast, is this normal? If not, what should I do?

Thank you

Let it run a couple more days. If it’s still that fast, bring it to your watchmaker.

No, it's not normal. First, how long ago was this purchased, and did the seller provide any proof that the watch was actually serviced by Omega?

Second, what are you using for a time base to check the timing? Also, have you fully wound the watch by the crown, and worn it enough to ensure it's being wound properly after that?

It was purchased in 2000 and the seller did give me some papers with proof of service. I actually took it to the jeweler right after the purchase for resizing, the jeweler did confirm it was indeed serviced by omega in 2019 as his shop sent it out.

Correct, I did fully wind the watch and I have been wearing it for 22-23hrs per day, just not when im exercising. After I set it at 930AM I use my iphone to check it then 24hrs later, make a note in my phone, do it again the next day and so on. It is adding 20-22 seconds per day since.

When exactly in 2019 was it serviced? If it was after August 4th, and was actually performed by Omega you are likely covered under the service 2 year warranty. Ask the jeweller who sent it to send it again for rectification.

Cell companies are notorious for not caring about the exact time.

Set your time standard on your computer to time.nist.com and use that or one of the atomic clock apps.

Most modern cell phones use the GPS-determined time for the internal clock, so it should be plenty accurate, to at least 1 sec. The problem is most cell phones don’t show the seconds very well - I know my iPhone only shows it with a tiny sweeping hand on the app icon. Definitely use time.gov to check the time for the most accurate comparison.

Ended up taking it to my AD yesterday, watch was de-magnetized and seems to be running well right now within specs, very happy!

Appreciate all the help here
