C24 certification- worth it?

Hello, and thank you for checking this thread

I’m considering buying a watch from a private seller on C24 which is “Certifiable”. Obviously this service comes at a cost, for which they apparently route the watch to a watchmaker for investigation and certification.

Would anyone here happen to have used this service before? Do they send the watch to an AD for certification?

Thanks in advance!

I dont know but I do know chrono does business with Zeitauktion.com. It's a big German dealer. When you want to sell a watch to chrono you receive a quotation from Zeitauktion. It would'nt surprise me if they use this company also for "certification". But I would'nt trust that "certification". You have to do your own due diligence. When in doubt, ask here.

By the way, I did'nt know chrono did this. I think this is a new service.

I wasn't aware that C24 had a 'Certifiable' service from a private seller. In fact, I don't see it listed on their site. Usually you get the C24 Escrow Service, 'Ownership Confirmed' status (ie, the seller proves to C24 he has possession of the watch), and the proviso that there is NO legal obligation for the seller to accept returns. Maybe C24 has a financial interest in the watch you are looking at and can 'certify' it.

As usual you have to buy the seller. Two weeks ago I bought a watch from a private seller on C24 (~$10k), went back and forth a few times clarifying things, getting another couple of pics, and negotiating final price and shipping. Paid for it with my credit card and got the watch a few days later, as soon as I inspected it I released the funds to the buyer. Worked super smooth. Personally I don't want a watch to be shipped around to be inspected and certified, I'd rather deal with the seller directly, satisfy myself the watch is as described, and keep other people's fingers off the watch I've just bought.

I just took a look at the website and indeed they have a new 'certifiable' service. But it does'nt mention which company or watchmaker does the certification. It cost eur 200 to get this service. When you click on the 'certification' you can find a bit more info about the process.

Anyway, it does'nt change anything. I would never trust the 'experts' of chrono or their third parties.

Thanks for your perspectives, all.

If I knew they’d send to an AD for certification I might be inclined to spend the extra 200 to de-risk a purchase. But, as Shabbaz references, C24 doesn’t specify which “watchmaker” they send the watch to, which strikes me as… fuzzy.
