From what I could hear I think the reason he was pissed off was that he had to wait for 20 minutes before someone came along and actually got something sorted out...not exactly a "priority" service.
I've had issues with United, recently twice stuck in Houston (in successive trips!) trying to get back. On the first trip United said they had no hotels available in Houston to offload international passengers (which for me meant that they had no backup plan for hotel reservations).
I ended up having to to share a hotel room with two kind Brazilian female passengers. I suppose I should not have complained too much

Both were quite attractive and 30ish, but of course, as any happily married man would do, I crashed out on the suite entrance sofa/coffee area...and they had all the fun sharing the bed
