It sounds like he's in a bit of trouble, Antarctica probably isn't the safest place in the world to be at 86, even when you're as fit and healthy as he's been up until now. http://www.businessinsider.com.au/buzz-aldrin-evacuated-south-pole-2016-12?r=US&IR=T I hope he's ok, we don't have that many Apollo astronauts left anymore.
The New York Air National Guard C130s have been ferrying people and supplies around Antarctica for a few years. They will be going to fetch Buzz and get him to New Zealand.
He's one tough dude so my fingers are crossed this all passes and he's okay. No one really wants to say it, but things like this are going to happen more frequently now and it will be disheartening to see.
The suspenders look fine to me. They look like someone who doesn't have to care what people think of the way he dresses, and they're colorful! It's Antarctica, not Park Avenue. I enjoy the photos!
Not a bad physical appearance for an 86 y/o dude! Seems he remains very capable of packing and hauling his way to Antarctica! Impressive!
The weather in the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station right now is Snowy -30°C Buzz needs to be kept warm
Seems he's better now. So we can now talk about the lesser matters: he doesn't seem to be wearing a speedy. Ha ha ha! Man couldn't care less. (Is @ulackfocus going to post a squirrel dance here?). So what watch is he wearing?
S, I think that is a newer Speedmaster. I recall a discussion about it recently..... you know, back when I was a mod and was forced to trudge through all those silly threads.
Really? With those big lugs that look like some 1950s watch? Okay, I admit, I was fanning the flames here I'll have to look for that highly informational thread which I have missed. (If I can find it...)
I met him at the Tampa International airport once... He was wearing an X-33 but I think it is sometimes attached to a 18K rose gold DeVille Chronoscope GMT on the opposite side of the same bracelet.
That's an Omega DeVille Chronoscope Co Axial Rattrapante Split Second GMT 44mm Calibre 3603 in 18 K Rose Gold. The original brown alligator leather has been replaced with a modified SS or Titanium bracelet
@meganfox17, I am officially floored -- you do know your stuff !! PS - was that your wrist wearing that huge watch?
I think all of the US expedition outposts in Antartica are 9500 feet above sea level & Buzz developed High Altitude Pulmonary Odema. He was what....? transported to the nearest specialist hospital in South Island , New Zealand for examination & primary treatment ? It's Not a Joke moving somebody in acute distress to almost 2800-2900 miles away!! Lemme see....The doctors have now stabilized his condition after draining fluid out of his lungs & empirically treated Buzz for Pneumonia with iv antibiotics. Ok. So I guess he would be transported back to US for further management in another established hospital in a couple of days [emoji4] He is actually a SuperHuman Being unlike us mortals to withstand such tremendous insults in the coldest, driest , windiest place on the planet !
