Buying vintage from abroad

I'm looking at Mark II Speedmasters, but from what I can see, most of the 'decent' ones that aren't that expensive are abroad. They are mainly in the US.

Are there any huge disadvantages with buying abroad, and what extra costs would I have to factor into the price?

If you are in the EU you will have to pay VAT and a processing fee to the shipper, and then there is the currency conversion costs to factor in.

Main issue is probably that it's always harder to resolve a problem across customs, language and time zone barriers.

I'm in the UK, so the VAT would have to be paid. Even with that they still seem much cheaper. I'll have to find someone reputable and see how their prices compare to the bay. 😀

If you buy from the US you will have to pay import tax, calculators available online, but I think it's about 30% of the purchase price.
