This has probably been covered before but here goes (again):

If you buy and sell the same watch over and over is it a sign that you should just keep the damn watch and ignore the things about that makes you sell it, or is it a sign that you should just leave it for good and stop thinking about it. Or should you just except that things aren't black and white and that you are stuck in this cycle for ever

Nothing wrong in trading up to a better example if one comes along.

What are the things that make you keep selling it, though - that matters. Is it money? Then it makes sense. Indecision about whether you truly like it or not? Then keep repeating the cycle...it will become clear to you eventually.

Not money. It concerns the humble Seiko SKX. When I have one I just tend to wear it all the time, which makes me think that I should just sell the others, becaus it is all I need. But I won't of course so I sell the Seiko. And then the whole thing happens again.

And now I am about to buy another :D Just curious if anyone else has/has had the same dilemma

Sounds like you should keep buying more copies of the Seiko model, and drop the selling part of the equation. It appears you are stepping all over your natural instincts. :D

@Bill Sohne Buys the exact same Chelsea clock every time one appears on eBay. If he turns up dead one day with a clock shaped dent in the back of his head, it'll be his Mrs.

Buy the SKX. Keep it this time. Mine occupies a permanent corner of my watch box. The chapter ring is totally misaligned on mine, which bothers me more than it probably should, but I'll never sell it. Especially considering it's only worth like $150.

Was big into divers years ago (25y) and had several watches over the years and always sold or swapped after a few months and would buy a Seiko in between. Must have bought the same watch 6 times.

Funny as never had a idea that you could collect watches back then and the selling platform i used was mates at the water Ski club after a few beers. (Hey thats a cool watch, give you $$ for it )

Not an issue with me. My watches are like my guns. Once under my roof, they don't get sold.

Funny I see Shailor's post, was just about to say I've done this with Glocks for 20yrs. Love/hate relationship. Great tool but it never goes to the range so I end up trading it off, then seem to end up with one again. I now accept that's how it's gonna be. Heck my wife just bought me another one for my bday. So here I go again. A delightful problem to have.

There's something to be said for handling many different watches of the same reference. You really get to know it well, which in turn gives you a greater appreciation for the reference as a whole, as represented by the many incarnations that you've handled. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm fact, I'd encourage it!

It's not really the same watch, it just looks like it.

I already have that dent on the back of my noggin, but I think it was a warning shot as I'm still here.

Sounds like you should bite the bullet and become an SKX collector. Great watches and less damaging to the wallet than some silly Speedmaster.... ::stirthepot::
