Buying new Rolex 16030, Need Help!

Hello all,

I have lurked in the forums for some time now and have finally decided to purchase a 16030 (was originally leaning towards 160X). This decision was made based on the difference in bph, simply newer parts, and the overall lack of "patina" (not a fan on a "modern" luxury timepiece). There are a number of watches being sold on the Bay and wanted to run these through you guys before pulling the trigger.

What must be kept in mind is that I always like to have an "exit strategy." In the event that I absolutely need to sell the watch, the goal is to not lose over 10-20% - any aspects that could lead to the significant depreciation of the watch, need to be avoided.

I'm incredibly excited about this purchase. Thank you in advance.

I think you can probably do better. The first and third look to have a service dials and hands (not tritium). The second has thin lugs from over polishing.

I would suggest that you should have the vendor of any Rolex you buy on line, to provide pictures of the model number and serial number as would be engraved between the case lugs. It has been a while since I have been deeply into Rolex models, but the links you have provided to 3 Rolex watches all seem to show watches with acrylic crystals. You mentioned you want the higher bph, such as comes with the newer calibre 3035 and 3135 movements. I may be wrong, but didn’t these models with the acrylic crystal contain the older 15xx series movements? I would want the vendor to specify exactly which model movement is in the watch you are interested in. You should be able to pick up a newer model 16220 with the newer calibre movement, and a sapphire crystal for not a lot more than the prices shown in your links.

I believe that the OP is correct. The 16030/16014 with acrylic crystals should have the quick-set cal 3035 with higher beat rate compared to the cal 1570. Personally I am a fan of the 1601/1603 for the "pie-pan" dials, but that's just personal taste.
