Hi - I've found this Speedy 105.003-63 (pics attached) for $17.5k. Is it that a good price? Stated as minimally polished case, all original parts, with the exception of the color matched hour and minute hands. This chart:

    http://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/

Seems to indicate it might be about right.

And I realize this is a completely, potentially unfair question, but how would a Speedy stack up in terms of value retention to $14k a 1675 seen here (https://www.hqmilton.com/timepieces/p04gpm0d/1968-rolex-gmt-master-1675-pepsi-A2065).

This is my first vintage watch - and I do love both equally, and would love to own both at one point.

I may be wrong here, but I’m suspicious of the speedy - too many colour differences in the movement ( just look at the lighter colour of the plate with the serial number on it cf rest)

Certainly for this price, i’d want everything to be correct - so no colour matching of hands and a bracelet

With your budget you should be able to get a stunning watch - and a matte dialled 16750 complete set pepsi should be within your grasp

Take your time - this is a big step

I would prefer to see a dial more appropriate for a 63 Speedie. If you ask why, you probably shouldn’t be spending $17.5k on a Speedie.

you make a fair point - I am wondering if it's too good to be true (and I know the adage here!). If it makes any difference, it was originally sourced through lunaroyster.com...

At least the 1675 has all the right parts, but your question is loaded.

Do your diligence on both and see which you like most. It’s obvious you can afford both, this should come down to condition and originality of each watch.

Lunar Oyster no good? Some light clicking seems to suggest he's not trustworthy.

Let's just say one or two watches that had some replacement parts have passed through that store, and not necessarily been identified as having those replacement parts. But you have to give credit for ingenuity, such as replacing a part with a paper clip...

If you truly want an EW, there are a few listed on OF which you’ll be happy with.

Don’t make rush decision, take your time and do your homework both on the watch and the seller.

May I ask what makes you suspicious of that dial except for the condition and the lume color?
Everything else checks in my box, pre pro, close spaced T‘s, AML etc.

Not defending the seller or the watch, just asking for educational purposes.

    Cheers,

    Max

Radium lume and not tritium will have that tint. IMO that watch had both hands and dial relumed.

Does that really affect the value of the watch that much?

FWIW - watch is supposed to be featured on Bring a Loupe on Friday

Very much so. Take a black light.

I could believe the plot color - the matchy matchy hands not so much.
