    Hi guys,

I'm looking to buy a vintage Omega watch and I'm confusing between the different models (Geneve, Seamaster, De Ville).
I'd like to have an automatic movement.
One option is this watch (please see photos attached). It's a Caliber 1022 automatic and actually looks in a pretty good condition. What do you think? What would be a reasonable price to pay for it? Is it authentic?

I'm pretty new to this, so any kind of advice would be great.

I wouldn't pay anything for it.

The case has been heavily polished, the back of the case has deep corrosion, the dial looks to me to have been repainted, the date wheel looks to have a problem and the reference shown in the caseback (166.0209) is for a Seamaster, not a Genève.

Caseback references can't be treated as gospel, some were used across several lines as far back as the 1960s. That could well be a genuine Geneve version, in fact I am persuaded is. I dont see any evidence of repainting. I wouldn't buy it though as the 1970s movements are less pretty and more troublesome than earlier in my limited but expensive experience.

True, but if the reference in the OVDB was for a Genève and the dial was a Seamaster I'd be more confident about the redial, but the dial doesn't look right to me anyway. Only decent head-on shots would convince me one way or the other.

    I still would buy it.

    EDIT: Would not buy it.

yea dude.. dont buy this looks awful. for the above reasons and more.. "shinny" does not always mean good condition...
straps fake looks like a crappy indian / philippines service & redial

    look here https://omegaforums.net/threads/Ωf-unanimously-favorite-ebay-sellers-list.3612/

tho i dont know how updated this list is ...

try a business seller that claims the watch is serviced and realistically it should be OR buy private but leave yourself like a minimum of £200 to one side for a service later

Tof be honest, there are much better bets out there than this one. 3-400 gbp should get you a very nice all steel Geneve. For example this looks OK to meLook http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122496641706Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
