I originally set out to buy an older Rolex GMT Pepsi, this was a watch I always wanted growing up. I finally stopped into a local Jewelry store that carried Rolex and tried on the newer ceramic model GMT with black bezel. And while the watch was gorgeous I was underwhelmed by the 40mm size compared to the 45.5 PO I was wearing that day. It just looked small on my wrist.

Fast forward I stopped by the omega boutique and tried the omega PO 600m GMT. Wow, the blue ceramic with orange accents was beautiful.

Now I'm stuck, I want a Rolex, even looked at the Explorer II model in 42mm case. But the 600m is very nice, along with the view window on the case back.

Has anyone that owned the Rolex GMT ever felt the watch was too small?

    Thanks Craig

if Rolex GMT still looks small on your wrist, you could try the Deepsea

It's not, it's just the effect on what you're used to wearing. If you wear it for a couple of days then the 45.5 will seem too big. It's perception, not reality. I have a 45.5 po and I even have the very big panerai radiomir, and they worn fine...I also wear a 36 Baume and a tank Cartier and they both work well. The Rolex 5512 is 40 or 41 mm and it's a perfect design.

As for the new rolex GMT maybe it's the thicker bezel that makes the dial shrink a little? Either way, give "smaller" watches a chance on your wrist. Whatever brand.

I have an average size wrist so I prefer average size watches. 36 to 40mm is the perfect size for me. If you are a big guy, go for a big watch. The watch should be an accessory, not the main event. Reflect your personality, not be your personality. (Getting too mushy). Try them on. Go with the one that makes your heart beat the fastest.

Points all taken. I will make another round thru the various boutiques... It's always fun and I usually learn a thing or two.

I had the GMTc ... Sold it soon after getting my Liquid Metal Limited edition....

honestly, I found that the Thick lugs on the Rolex made it wear larger than the 42mm LM ... it just wasn't nearly as pretty....

If I had to do it again.... The GMT Good Planet would be a no-brainer..
The Press Photos fail to show the true beauty of the Blue Colour...

Last advice, if you have another watch, a smaller one, wear that for a couple of days before going in. Then you'll be able to judge better.

    Good hunting!

Going purely by your post, it sounds like you like the Omega more in practice. I suggest going with your gut right now, which seems to prefer the Omega. You can always get the Rolex later in addition to the PO if desired, though it sounds like your preferences have changed somewhat since what you wanted growing up. I've found myself better served by listening to my current self rather than my past one. Just my suggestion, decision is all yours. :)

The PO is beautiful for sure. I never noticed the model until it was posted earlier today on another thread. Now it's popping everywhere. I have to see it in person one of these days.

Common to want a watch and spend heaps of time looking it up and then you finally try it on and............. nothing

Done it myself not long ago with the Tudor Black Bay

I do not like the lack of anti-reflective coating on the Rolex. The dial looks cloudy compared to Omega.

Does anyone know if the GMT is like *rarer* than the standard POs? i.e for re-sale value? I'm guessing they maybe didnt make as many being a collaborative deal but I know its not a 'limited edition' or anything like the 007 shiz.

Hello cdw63. You already have a PO so mix it up and buy the Rolex GMT. I wouldn't worry about a 40 mm watch looking too small. As was already mentioned, it's just your perception. I get the same feeling when rotating between the 45.5 LMPO and my Speedy Pro. After a few hours away from the PO, Speedy doesn't seem all that small anymore.

I have several smaller watches, a Tag link, omega sea master,. I don't wear any other jewelry other than a simple wedding band, so I am not necessarily looking for lot of bling. One of the reasons I don't have a Breitling. The Rolex purchase for me was a little boyhood dream and at one time my Grail. As a few of you have posted times change and so do personal tastes.

As stated earlier, I am shopping today and will hopefully narrow down the field.

My Rolex GMT (Which is for sale i might add) is 40mm but actually feels like a 42mm.

Unfortunately the Rolex shop only had a steel/gold GMT and a black face Explorer II. On the other hand the Omega boutique had the PO 600m in blue/orange. It is definitely taller than my 2500D PO. It looked nice....[IMG]
