This is a Seiko Turtle SRPE93 / SRP777 4r36-04y0 review so click off now if you don't want to hear about another person absolutely loving this model.

This review will be broken into parts if you want to skip around.

First Seiko
This is my first Seiko dive watch after nearly 8 years of collecting. I'm what's called a flipper so I own a luxury watch for 6 months to a year before selling at a loss to move on to the next thing. I've owned them all, Rolex subs, GMT's, IWC's many many Omega's (my favorite company) and other brands.
For a while I didn't have a watch since my recent purchase was a very expensive camera. After wearing a Swatch for months I felt like I needed something. Now I picked up this Seiko.

Why I never owned one

The SKX was always under $200, never bought one and then after a couple of years the price nearly doubled. Same with the Rolex GMT. I owned and sold a vintage model at around 5k. I know to a lot of people this is a 12-15k watch but for me having owned and worn one at 5k, I would never pay that.

I'm happy with what I paid for this Seiko Turtle some parts of this watch are nicer then some 3-5k watches that I have owned like the bezel and dial.

Wearing the watch 24/7

So far it's been 48 hours as you can see in my photos with the date on the watch. I plan to for the first time, to wear a watch for 24 hours each day. I've always wanted to do this but end up taking watches off to shower or sleep.

Then I take them off if I'm going to be doing something at work that could damage them.

Then I end up going days without wearing a watch.

Then it's like why do I even own it. Sell it.

All of that should change with this one. I'm excited about having a tough diver that's not too pricy for me to wear 24/7.

Seiko Model Numbers. What the F**K?

Mine says 4r36-04y0 on the back which should be SRP777 but I ordered a SRPE93 (which has lume at 3 oclock).

The watch seems brand new so the model difference does not bother me though I was liking that lume at 3.

I feel like the sellers don't realize a difference. For my understanding some models changed only the text on back since there was a change to iso diving standards. Many sellers are probably mislabeling their stock.

Butter Bezel

To me the best bezel is the Rolex Sub but damn this Seiko comes close. I've owned many many Omega's and I was never a fan of clickly bezels. The Ploprof was really nice since it didn't really click at all but that's a different design.

This turtle is so so smooth and moves like butter. It's a little stiff but dive bezels probably should be.

The Seiko package all together.

Tonight I'll be watching the Aybss to get some diving and watch inspiration. The watch is a prime example of buying a quality watch over just buying a brand. Not to offend as I'm an Omega man myself but man when I opened this I could not believe that I paid under $400 for a reliable dive watch that I like this much. I paid nearly half of that for an Omega nato (again, I'm a huge Omega fan please don't hate me.).

Hopefully no one hates on me for any of my crazy claims in this post. I feel like I should have bought one of these long ago. As a watch flipper, I'm really a one watch guy. We are rare on the forums.

For now this is my single watch which I will torture for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We will see how it holds up.

Great buy! Congrats. One of the great all time dive watch designs. The turtle is a much better looking watch than the SKX IMO. Wear it well!

I totally agree about the surprisingly great bezel action on the SRP777. If it wasn't for the small amount of back play, it would be the best bezel on any dive watch I've owned. As for seeing how well it holds up to the rigors of life, Seiko's DiaShield coating does not disappoint. My SRP777 was essentially flawless after a year of regular wear and clumsy bracelet/strap changes.

What exactly is the DiaShield coating.

What exactly is the DiaShield coating.

Seiko's proprietary coating - analogous to DLC and generally described as being 2 to 3 times harder than stainless steel.
