    Hi all,

I have an issue with the automatic winder in a cal 354, inside a Seamaster 2767. It appears as the case back "squeezes" the mechanism. Opened up, all is good and the mechanism "bumps and winds", but when i click on the case back it goes "silent". I have a few other bumpers and this one definitely feels different.
One can see a (maybe) sign of friction on the mechanism(?), 10 o clock on upper left pic.
Nothing appears lose, movement firm in case, and winding mechanism
Is this a common issue - an advice?
    Thanks!!
    Martin

    Gasket?

Missing the gasket might cause the clearance issue.

That would be my first guess as well.

+2, as it is... There is, as the OP says, sure signs of rubbing on the rotor.

No gasket and I'll add rotor bearing wear/wobble.

    Ahhh...as "simple" as that.
Looking at the rotor "bearing" I detect no wobbling but maybe hard to detect "by eye and hand". Is this hard to fix? Thanks for help! E85670CD-DBA7-454C-ADA4-F87B41F9A47D.jpg

You won't be able to see it unless you have some experience. The place to look is at the outer edge of the rotor. Compare the gap to the plate with the movement dial up and dial down.

To be honest, you need a watchmaker if it's this (I can also see a piece of lint in your movement - not good) as it'll be the pivot on the steel plate to which the rotor is screwed. It's part number is 3321403 (Oscillating weight bearing mounted) and it's not readily available. You can repair it but, not easily. I would not attempt this yourself.

    Chris, many thanks!

This one obviously needs a bit of attention (missing the seconds hand as well) and proper cleaning

I will check and hunt for the part. They are so enjoyable to wear so I think it's worth the efforts to invest into them

I like these as well but, they are a bit more complex than a later calibre to service and parts are not always available. If the dial and case are good, it's worth having it sorted.

Here's one of mine that I just serviced and I really enjoy the bump-bump on the wrist.

Dial is fair but not fantastic..hard to get by examples where dial and case are truly nice - like yours! Congrats!

Wouldn't think it's a gasket problem as they get completely squished once the back is pressed one. Also I never used one when I restored and never had any problems.

I would suggest turning the watch over with back off and see if rotor drops to see how much play there is

Second - look at movement from the side, move rotor back and forth and see if it rises above case lip. May not be seated properly

Last. Center wheel bridge. Can't tell due to fuzzy pictures, but is it sitting flat by the screw end?

Well, the movement on yours is nicely coloured and with no apparent corrosion (regulator all off to one side is not a good thing but would be solved in a service) so, it could be a nice watch. I have ones with lesser dials - how does your watch look from the front?

    Cheers, Chris

And I'll add possibly an aftermarket crystal, lacking the stepped tension ring...

Front, decent by the eye (but not more imo), need seconds hand and some lume missing. Cannot detect any horisontal "slack" in the bumper...maybe the movements IMG_5297.JPG position in the case. Will fit new crystal when hand arrives...

Took crystal out and reinserted the movement...a diff of 1-2 mm so now it swings :) Hopefully original crystal will complete the picture

    Thanks guys!!!

You do have a pin sticking out of the circumference of the movement more or less opposite the case clamp? If that is there, I can't see any way that you have gained such a significant amount as it fits in a groove in the case which is not so big to allow that.. Even at the clamp area, the amount you're talking about is enormous.. Seems very odd.

Maybe I am exaggerating...but it was clearly above the case on the backside, now in level.
Glass back on and it still bumps. Can it be so simple that previous owner had inserted it without fitting the pin into its slot. Crystal now back on and it works!

Did you check to see if the tension ring had a step in it?
