That dial is bizzare -- in a good way.

I wish I had done a better job capturing it in the pics, the 3-D effect is very pretty.

@Syrte needs to see this wonderful piece of Art Deco-ness.

In case anyone is wondering, the L0 on the caseback stands for 1950, and the 49 on the movement is for 1949. For more info, see this site:

Thanks agee  I've owned a few R version over the years after seeing one an issue of British GQ magazine. I should have kept them but I was always chasing after something else.

    Correct ulackfocus :)

These were suppose to be made under agreement with the Academy for four years but Bulova exceeded it's reach with an advert proclaiming these watches to be award winning deigns, which the Oscars felt meant Bulova were saying they won an Oscar for their design. They were sued, lost and the watches stopped production after only two years.

The design agee mentions above is particularly nice:

Here's the article I mentioned above. I can't remember if it was from a 1990 or 1991 issue, but look at the price!

    Thank you @ulackfocus !!
Yes, hard core art deco indeed ...., and that dial is reminiscent of high flying jewelery - like Piaget and Poiray...
