Don't wear anything to obvious / flashy on the wrist - under the radar is wise ( these were my wife's words to me before I went for the first time, she's from BA... ) ... I must admit I never felt wary, but I was probably oblivious to everything. The steak is out of this world - enjoy!
Sotto Voce for a nice dinner. This is NOT a recommendation....... it is a command! You will not regret.
sorry to say that BsAs is a hotbed for watch forgeries ... stay esp. clear of their U.Nardin argentine specials... if you plan to buy someting stay with the beaten path of seamasters and connies
Eat steak The worst street meat steak you have will be better than the best steak in any European and most North American cities. Bet
Go to a blue dollar exchange place. You will get a 40% better exchange rate, guaranteed. Don't use a credit card for any thing or any reason. Bet
You should be able to get around 14:1 USD ---> PESO at a blue dollar joint. For reference: the official exchange rate is ~ 9:1 right now. It's a huge difference. Most of the economy of Argentina has been reduced to price controls and dollar exchange rip-offs. It wasn't very long when Argentina had a larger and more dynamic economy than the United States. For shame.
We spent a few days in Mendoza and the issues around currency were fascinating. The best we got was 16:1 at a wonderful winery - it suddenly made the wines much cheaper.
Ooh my wife would literally kill me for saying that - they had some kinda war or something - and yet I'm English
Um, er....no. love Chilean wines.......but try Yacochuya from the Salta region in Mendoza. Michel Rolland making magic there......
Don't make the mistake of wearing a "replica" watch in case you are robbed. I hear that some folks are quite capable with a machete! Worry more about losing a hand at the wrist than losing a watch (or jewellery). A plastic Swatch would be your best bet! And leave your rings at home!
