Just arrived Seiko World Time 6217-7000 (Seiko's 1st GMT), introduced in 1964 Tokyo Olympics Photobombing is JDM Seiko "Baby Panda" 6138-800 Chronograph from 1971
Nice! As mentioned elsewhere, 2017 is the year where I add an early automatic Seiko chronograph to the collection... Would love to own a Time Sonar http://www.pbase.com/elveez/seiko_time_sonar
No pictures yet and buying it was a TOTAL fluke but I am now the soon-to-be owner of a King Seiko 44-9990. Bored, I was fooling around on fleaBay. Saw this watch newly listed at $0.99. It was in OK condition and I thought "I would buy that but not for a penny more that $400". So I put in a max $400 bid. So 9 days and $385.02 later...
I was in a position once to get one of those. But somehow it did not appeal to me. But would LOVE to get my hands on one of these babies:
A recent auction lot included a 1973 6105-8119 Captain Willard, an untouched VIRGIN find in original condition. Very pleasing watched and looking forward to getting serviced and cleaned!
Got this '71 6105 a week ago...all original and unmolested. Dial is perfect and rather rare with creamy, clean lume plots with no degradation.
2017 year of the Seiko. They are only going up in price from here. Get the good ones now. I got this one last year and it's doubled in price. Still needs a strap and service.
I am fascinated with seiko and have 40 plus 6139/6138 chronos/divers and dress watches. It has been a superb place to collect interesting watches without the attendant high entry costs of other brands but prices are rising and good quality pieces take more work to find As in any other market the best prices are paid for original examples but as the prices are rising so are the number of fake/modded and played with watches. 60/70s chrono's and divers are the most abused but luckily there is a wealth of information available to help in researching models. Seiko's also have an easy method for dating the watch from the serial number on the case back. E bay has a few regular sellers who are economical with the facts but it is pretty apparent who they are once you delve into the trading history as they seem to be able to sell sought after watches in "pristine " condition every week It is still a good market to buy from original owners sock drawers as in a lot of cases they upgraded and forgot about it because of its value. A good source for unmolested watches is Yahoo Japan Auction site which services the home market. It is an insular market suspicious of selling outside its home territory so a wealth of proxy sites have become established to enable guys like myself to bid.It is still interesting getting translations and you need to calculate all the costs re shipping, commission, tax etc into the final price but there is plenty of choice at good prices Any one interested in watches will have fun with vintage seiko and the price in relation to omega/longines and rolex (which I also collect) allow me to be far more adventurous in my purchasing
I have owned a few Seiko divers-6105, 6309-no pictures-all have moved away I have been looking at Seiko chronos for a while-looking at 6139 + 6138-to be worn everyday Only thing I don't about the Seikos is the date or day/date on the dial- I think it detracts from the look of the watch
I am pleased to have finally indulged in my long standing fascination with vintage Seiko's. The "True Pogue" I acquired from @efauser (with a little encouragement from @watchknut) last year, is currently with Spencer Klein for a tune up. This one recently landed from Tom Hickman in the UK. here's a nice budget chrono I enjoy... 7A28-7049 from '83... aka Seiko 'Speedy' also a sweet 6105-8009 from '68, although not quite a 'budget' diver anymore
