Has anyone had any luck gluing an old Seiko strap keeper back together? I would hate to get rid of it! Thanks in advance.

Have a look on AliExpress, last time this happened I bought a bunch off there for next to nothing.

I was hoping to find a vintage strap keeper from the same time period. I know the watch isn’t a collector grade specimen but I wanted to keep it as close to original as possible.

I really don’t know if the keeper is original to the strap but it sure looks like it. But I guess you’re right, anything can happen in fifty years !! I’m gonna try crazy glue!! 🤣

No glues will hold. Trust me. Too much flex with little surface area to bond.
Post some rough dimensions. I might have one from a Seiko in the box-o-parts.
They oxidize over time. Straps break often, too.

Thank you very much. I’ll be home Saturday as I’m vacation with the kid right now. No way to measure anything. I do appreciate it!! 😎

I understand trying to keep it all original and period correct, but I’d just get a new one from Uncle Straps via the link I sent earlier, at least temporarily. After a couple days, I bet you won’t notice the difference in rubber texture, etc.

If you find anything that is the same vintage as the strap, it will likely be just as dried out and possibly ready to crack, as yours did.

Makes total sense and probably what I will do. The strap itself doesn’t seem long for this life either. I just didn’t want to start throwing stuff away without some more expert input. Thank you for your help.

Left one is 23.5mm and right is 24mm.

Excellent! Now I gotta get home to measure the size. Appreciate it very much!

Update:

Thanks to the very generous and respected veteran OF member Redpcar, my old Gene Kranz has a new/vintage strap keeper. The community here is amazing and although I am fairly new here it feels really good when experienced watch collectors take the time to help out the new guys! Thanks again, Dave! 😎
