Broken 7077 flat link

Hello OF,

I am interested in an upcoming auction. However the watch, which is my primary interest, is fitted with a broken flat link bracelet.

I don’t have much experience with these, and struggle to understand:
1/ how hard it is to fix and
2/ what a fair value would be so to not miss out on the auction

See below some pictures of the bracelet.

My research points to an early 7077 type A (short buckle double spring links, no date on the clasp). There are 8 solid links either side but only 3 spring links (damaged part) instead of 5.

So it’s incomplete in addition to being damaged. I found a couple of threads on repairing bracelets, but it seems extremely complicated.

What do you think?

Many thanks.

The links aren't too difficult to repair, springs are available. Finding extra links is more complicated but often not needed unless you have really large wrists. More important are the end links (not pictured) which are often worth more than the bracelet itself and can be harder to source.

Thanks. The back of the ends links are not visible on any picture unfortunately. I asked about it a few days ago but don’t have too much hope of getting an answer.

The bracelet is also short, a full length 7077 will have 5 double stretch links, 3 on one side, 2 the other. This one looks like it only has 3 in total.

Indeed. Thanks for all the answers. I’ll factor in a small amount extra for the bracelet, hopefully that will do the job !

Worth calling out it has 18mm endlinks, too narrow for the watch, but correct for Seamasters and Constellations of the era.

Yes, the bracelet wasn’t meant to be fitted to this watch (which has 19mm lugs)

Quick update on where this auction went, for posterity.

The watch was a Geneve 2748 (jumbo). Overall a nice “barn find”, with a very attractive case, the dial was good but with some spotting, so not pristine. Marked as non working, movement needs a service straight away, perhaps parts to be replaced. Crystal is broken. And of course the incomplete and to be repaired flat link.

My max bid was far too low to stand a chance. I am honestly surprised by the final result at… 1380€.

That is a big price. Buyer over excited by the 7077?

It might be worth sending the seller a message, saying you are interested in the watch head only, and asking if he would send your contact details to the buyer.

In the distant past you could do this through eBay yourself as you could see the buyers name or find it once they had left feedback. I think those days are gone.

I love these Geneve references too and I would have bought your waffle in a heartbeat if it wasn’t in the US!

For this one, I had put a value around 1200€ for the watch head, given the condition of the dial. It’s not working (so service plus possible parts, plus crystal), so my max for the watch was around 600€. Plus a few hundreds for the bracelet. Very short of the final bid!

Yes, I won’t bother. The seller didn’t reply to my question on endlinks, so I consider this watch gone… until the next one!
