Service chronomat would be expensive I assume, did he get watch serviced lately?
Why is that? It's a Valjoux 7740

The breitling is... funky... but FAB.

Find a buyer... if it was an easy watch to sell, the owner wouldn't even be considering a trade.

THe Rolex is essentially as good as dollar bills - and in a true open market situation, worth more than the breitling I think.

I've always been a bit of a sucker for that black/white/fluoro orange combo that Breitling did so well in its 70's pieces. Yes it's a busy dial, but I quite like it.

Yes, this is likely the best approach if you really want the breitling and need to get rid of the Rolex to fund it.

Sell and then buy - this might be a tough trade to get across the line.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. The truth is I just can't feel comfortable about the trade even though I have tried hard to do so. It was great to hear your views and opinions, and I am glad that for the most part they echoed the position I was coming to.

So the Explorer stays in the family and I now wait expectantly for the Speedy Tuesday.

Man that Breitling is beautiful!

I agree it would be a harder sell later on but if that didn't matter I'd grab it.

I love the dial on that.

Life's too short not to have a go.

it's not like you'll never find another explorer, Rolex only made about a zillion of them.

I like both. Do what you initially wanted to do before you posted. You must have had some interest if you posted the potential trade.

Like others have already said, if you do trade and end up really regretting it you can always buy another explorer with availability not being an issue. Not sure if the prices on Explorers are steady, increasing, or decreasing though.

I've always fancied one of those Breitlings but I wouldn't trade that Rolex for one. Definitely a trade down.

For me, most Breitling dials are too busy and the details are way too small. Never been a fan.

Please don't do it! 36mm Explorer is an absolute classic. Breitling is a poor specimen of a very common/cliche watch. Explorer says you love horlogerie, Breitling says you made it through your airline certifications.

Following up on this, do you know if the Breitling Chronomat (1973) Ref 7808 is still available?
I am looking for one.
Many thanks,
Felipe

Good luck. Better luck ( maybe ) if you post a WTB .... anything鈥檚 poss, but it has been a couple yrs...

Neither of them hold much interest for me, the Rolex is way too small and the Breitling doesn't appeal to me.

Don鈥檛 do it. Your 14270 is stunning and will continue to age well. If you like the Breitling enough, just save up for it.

i may not make the trade either but it certainly wouldn't be for these reasons.
