    Problem: Depressing the crown does not backlight the digital displays.

    I am assuming it is a battery problem at this stage, but not so sure as the EOL indicator message isn't appearing in the upper display. Battery is at least 3-4 years old.

    I will change the battery as soon as I can get the back off, but in the meantime I would like to know if there isn't some hidden function that stops the backlighting to save battery power?

    My understanding is that if it was the battery it would flash the EOL indicator.

    there is a little switch that comes into contact with the door when it's closed. If you open the door then the light comes on.
