Why does everything have to be 40-something mm's. I wear my Speedy, but prefer my 36-38mm watches for the most part. If the case is narrow enough on the sides, I find 33 and 34 mm's to be adequate. When are these manufacturers going to realize we don't all have 8.5 to 9 inch wrists? Sorry for the vent....carry on.

That's a beautiful watch, and I guess it has the in-house movement.

It's 41mm because it is a faithful re-edition of the original. That's the whole idea of these re-editions, to make it as faithful as possible to the original (size, case shape, plexi crystal, dial, etc).

To OP, I have the 2019 re-edition of the Ref 806 Navitimer that has the same Breitling B09 column wheel movement, it's a good performer with a 70 power reserve and COSC rated. So if it sings to you and the price is acceptable they are good watches.

This is 41mm because the original 765 AVI was 41mm, because it's a pilot's watch. Same reason the Navitimer was a then-enormous 42mm in the early 60s.

Modern tastes run a bit larger, and while I generally personally prefer 38mm (no bezel) to 42mm (with bezel), the truth is that modern men's fashion doesn't run towards tiny watches on wrists.

On the other hand, why fret? Sure, with my enormous wrists I'm able to wear even 43mm no-bezel watches without looking like I'm compensating for something, but my great disappointment is that I can't really go below 36mm or so without it looking a bit odd. (Even 36mm is a labor-of-love size for me). So instead of worrying about a $7500 brand-new Breitling, why not check out all the awesome old <35mm 7733 and V92 chronos I love so much but could never wear? Or a dog-leg pie-pan Constellation. They even have an added bonus of costing far less generally, because of the size.

I've never quite gotten along with 765 AVIs, either vintage or the new one. Just isn't quite my jam. But, the new one really is a nice watch. One feature I really love is that it's a bidirectional friction-fit bezel, but has a tactile indent at 12. Wonderful little bit of attention to detail that I wish were featured on more watches 🥰

I have a 7 inch wrist and my sweet spot is 38-40 mm. I do have a couple of 42mm and have no issues wearing them but that's as far as I'll go.

Love vintage Breitling. Also love to take watch pictures.

Not a vintage Breitling thread, but maybe it's about time we had one here at OF?

I’d do a zenith prime first, but that’s me.

Maybe start a new thread though please? (Has nothing to do with the fact I just bought my first vintage Breitling, I promise 😁 )

It also caught my eye. Went to try it on. I liked it but oddly found the lugwidth a bit noticeably too wide, and the shiney bezel jumped out too as a potential scratch magnet. Not criticizing the watch, those were my 2 in-the-flesh first thoughts...other than that a lovely piece.

I do have one! I received my Breitling AVI 765 Co-Pilot Re-edition about 2 months ago.

I really enjoy the Breitling B09 movement (basically the B01 without the rotor and automatic winding gears). In-house and well critiqued - and it's been around long enough to have the kinks worked out. The 70-hour power reserve is helpful, the winding has a good feel and the Chrono pushers have a nice chunky click to them. I'm quite happy with the movement.

The look is dead on for a vintage Co-Pilot, one of my favourite vintage Breitling. WatchFred did a wonderful job ensuring Breitling nailed the design. I am a little less excited with the light fauxtina lume. I think fauxtina will start to look very 2010's in a few years and would have preferred they just made it look "new". But the rest of the design is bang on. I own a lot of vintage watches and its nice to have modern dependability with the vintage look, for once.

My only case complaint is that 30m WR could have been higher, to be 100% bad weather proof.

I asked Fred about the bezel feel, which I was slightly disappointed with. It is a 12-click bezel, once per hour, which matches the original. My only complaint was that it feels a bit light and tinny. Not solid like I'd expect from a luxury (?)...or at least expensive....watch to feel. However, Fred assured me that it does closely match the bezel feel on the original. One day I'll have to find someone with the vintage version to compare.

The strap is pretty good - typical thick Breitling leather with a fun bright yellow underside.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it, with a few niggling things. I'm really really curious to compare it directly to a vintage version.

With vintage siblings (and one sneaky 806 Navitimer Re-edition dead center - my friend's watch)
