I’ve been offered this and I’m going to see it in the boutique tomorrow. I like the 321 movement (my brother has an original Lemania) but really in two minds. I like it but feels quite fully priced...

All views welcomed.

Hi, think this is quite simple:
1) if you like it in the flesh and can afford it, buy if
2) if you‘re not sure yet, buy it and pass it to another OF member in case you decide it is not for you after a few weeks (ideally, at retail) - you will make someone very happy
3) if it does not speak to you, pass it
😀

Where are you based, if I may ask?

Agree with point 1 and 3. If you like it and can afford it buy it. If you don't like it then pass on it.

Disagree with point 2. For me if I was unsure, I'd pass on it. At that price point there shouldn't be any doubts whether I wanted the watch or not. YMMV.

I’m in London. I’m not a watch speculator (I wear a steel ceramic Daytona every day) but I just don’t know much about how the ‘community’ view this watch and whether it’s felt it’s worth £11,950.

What makes you feel your ceramic Daytona is worth the price you paid for ?

Haha. How do you know I do? My point is I’m not a flipper, I buy watches to wear.

I’m trying to work out if it’s ‘worth’ 2x a standard Speedmaster that’s all. It sounds like the workmanship and finish is somewhat better but I’m not very regular here so just trying to guage the mood. If I don’t like it I won’t buy it but I may be hypnotised by that 321...

I don’t think it’s worth 2x the price of the 60th anniversary, regardless of the 321.

Saw it today. Very nice but didn’t go for it.
Good man. If it’s not the one let someone else get it.

Yes the other sales assistant was waiting to call her client to say they could have it. Fair enough.

I did try on the new Bond watch too. Not mad on the watch but the titanium bracelet is brilliant. Might get a hesalite Speedmaster and stick one of those on it.

Well, slightly more delicate than a Speedmaster professional, obviously smaller. Brightly polished surfaces on the case and bracelet which made it less tool watch.

The main event, the 321 movement looked pretty spectacular with the Sedna gold components. In general they hit the mark with this watch, it’s special, just didn’t love it £12k worth I’m afraid. If I was a collector of Speedmasters it would probably be a no brainer.

Thank you for sharing your observations. A lot of us are very excited to see one in person.

Any thoughts on the quality of polishing and the edges?

I see this watch as a showcase/celebration of the 321. At this price level and low volume production, I hope the finishing is significantly better than everything else from the Speedmaster collection. I expect the bracelet to be finished to a much higher level than the one of the Apollo 11 50th. Omega US as always, has been lagging on deliveries...

Well I can’t compare it to the 50th but I have had a Speedmaster before and it’s definitely a cut above that. I found it pretty flawless and everything seemed to be very well executed. I liked the way it wasn’t plastered with the Moon stuff on the back. I think we know about that now...allows the movement be the star.

I took a couple of pretty crap photos but I’ll post them anyway. The blue glove was not a fashion choice...

Is the blue glove what you need to wear to try the watch at the watch shop these days? Looks creepy to me. But I got the point...

Yes, I had no choice on the creepy latex glove. They’re all different. Had just come from a Rolex shop and it was pretty normal.
