My 105.012 is currently on a leather strap but I like the option of changing it to a bracelet. Am I right in saying that the 1039 is period correct but perhaps not ideal for daily wear?

Because of this I'm thinking about sourcing an 1171 instead. To my mind, this looks like the best balance between vintage and secure. Do others agree? Do 633 end links work on a '66 with the vertical facets on the lugs and finally, is the modern 1171/1 more/less solid and hard wearing than a 1171?

    Thanks

I agree with your choice, but it is somewhat a personal preference.

I've heard both camps when it comes to bracelets (too light/too fragile/too valuable, versus original/not fragile/wear it as God intended (thanks member Flame!)). I have a '66-CB (is yours CB or HF? not that it matters for the bracelet). I am looking for the original 1039 with 516 end links because it's correct, looks right, and is comfortable to wear (based on the 19mm 1035 I have on my .003 straight lug). I don't think they're too fragile, despite being light weight.
Personally, I wouldn't spend the coin on a Speedy bracelet if it wasn't the original model for the watch head. I would just go aftermarket. I still have an old Kreisler that looks like a Rolex President in stainless (even has a hidden clasp). Not available anymore but I'm sure there are other choices out there.

I have the 1039, the 1171 and 1175. I agree it's always nice to have the "right" bracelet but to be honest, I find the best and most comfortable bracelet to be the 1175. The 1039 is a must-have but the 1175 is considerably better as a daily wearer IMO.

Thanks gents. Yes mine is a CB backed version. I do agree that the original bracelet would be a better option and if I bought a different one, I'd probably not be happy with it. I've just heard a number of folk say they're quite flimsy and I've never held one myself to draw my own conclusions. I suppose another option would be an aftermarket one that is similar to a 1039. Does anyone manufacture such a bracelet? assuming this would be less than an omega 1171, I could then justify buying both a 1039 to wear occasionally and keep, and the other for more frequent wear.

Trying to find a good 1039 with 516 end links and good stretch links is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive. I have 7 3/4" wrists and getting enough good stretch links was also a challenge but I have them all now :D

For me the 1039 does feel light but since its the correct period for the '67 Speedmaster I have, then I'm fine with that. And I assume it must have been strong enough in the day.

However for daily wearing I think I would go with the 1171, which is still available to buy new.

Here's an interesting point, the new SM300 will probably have the same 20mm lug fitment as the speedmaster, what if you can score one of those, a flat link 1039 style but entirely modern, micro adjustable bracelet for a Speedmaster Pro

The new bracelet for the sm300 is a good point. I do much prefer the flatter links but not perhaps the polished centre links.
Tgis has got me thinking that I want an original 1039 though now as well as something else for daily wear....

Could always brush the new bracelet but the original 1039 is brushed in the center and polished on the outside of the links too

Try and get a feel of a 1039. If you did buy one, you may well be disappointed when it turns up as they are pretty unsubstantial. Personally i love them though, and they work well on my skinny wrists. My 105.012 is either on a nato or a 1039. I do not think there a wanted section on this forum, but good to buy fom a trusted source. You need to look carefully at how many links you are getting/ how much stretch/ any damage as they are hard to fix if damaged..

Oh no doubt, but they do have micro adjust, aren't going to fall apart, and can be worn daily, I'm fully expecting this bracelet to replace the current 3570.50 bracelet before long.

1039 bracelets are great. They look good and match the watch. If you are going to wear your watch everyday during all sorts of rigorous happenings day to day, then an 1171 might feel more durable than a 1039. All depends on what you will be doing and of course budget.
