ยทA while back I bought a racing dial Speedmaster Mark II. The bracelet was a link or two short, but that wasn't an issue. I already had an Uncle Seiko 1162, so I just put a 1162/173 service clasp on it and called it a day. It's probably heresy of me to say it, but I like the US 1162 better than the Omega 1162 anyway. I put the watch on the US bracelet and tossed the other one in the "Omega Bracelets" bin.
Today I pulled out the bracelet that came with the watch to take a second look at it. I had assumed that it was also an 1162, but it isn't. In fact, I have no idea what it is, or even if it's an Omega bracelet at all. The underneath of the clasp is marked "stainless steel," "OMEGA" (with a classic Omega symbol), and "No.12" in an oval. The only other marking on the clasp is "2-74" near the hinge. The end links measure 19.7mm and are unmarked. The last links before the end links measure 23.5mm, which I think is a little wider than an 1162 would be.
I pulled it apart to see if it would accept an 1162 link. It does not. The opening for a new link is about 10.7mm, which is wider than the 1162 link. The outer width of the link appears to be 16mm. Also, I had expected the link to be held in by a pin, but it is not. instead, I found it to be held in place -- somewhat tenuously -- by a small (and dirty) spring bar.
So, can anyone give me a clue as to what this is, or isn't? It's not a big deal -- the watch itself is in nice shape and the price I paid would've been more than acceptable had it been head only. So, more than anything, this is me being curious and maybe learning something. Thanks, and pictures below.
