    Hi,

Im considering buying a Omega Seamaster "Banana". The watch is head only, but i really would like the original bracelet. Is it correct that it is supposed to be the 1170 bracelet with 631 end links? It seems to be hard to find. Is there any other ref of bracelets that will be a good fit?

I had the Poppy variant of the 166.068 with original bracelet. It was a 1171 with 631 ends.

    Hope this helps

I have been wearing my 'Banana' on an Omega mesh for a number of years.

About 2 weeks ago I thought I would try it on the original bracelet and I must admit I prefer the look.

Unfortunately my original bracelet which has languished in the box has a lot of stretch which makes the fit of the end pieces a little loose and I am currently trying to work out how to achieve a better fit!

I'll update this reply when I have achieved a better fit.

Thanks for the answers! What would you consider to be a fair price for a banana without a bracelet, boks or papers? It probably needs a service, but it runs.

Well there’s a lot of variations involved in a value but I’ve seen a few sell recently on eBay for between £1500 and £2000 gbp.
Mine also has the 1170 bracelet like Jack’s.

I think I’ve seen them go for that with and without, but you have to be lucky to get one at that level either way imo.

Thank you. The owner wants 1200 for the one i posted, so i might have to go for it then! I have found a bracelet online, but 631 endlinks is another story!

@SteinsonOmega I definitely think that watch you posted is worth $1,200. As you state it may need a service, but the dial and bezel look to be in amazing shape. The hands appear to be replacement or relumed. My experience is that depending on condition they sell for between $2,400 and $3,800 USD.

If you decide to pass on the watch please IM me the sellers info.

I asked him about the hands now, and i told me he got the watch brand new as a christmas present from his parents when he was young, and that i just used it for a couple of years before putting it away. So it has never been to any kind of service.

@SteinsonOmega I suppose that could be the case. It's hard to tell from the pic but they appear to be fairly white, while the lume on the dial and bezel seems to have a nice patina.

The bezel on this model is often cracked or damaged. This one looks to be in great shaped. Just pull the trigger and get it.

I think the colour of the hands may just be the pic which looks a little washed out.

As you can see in the pic of my Banana above the patina on the hands (which are original) is lighter than the dial.

They're interesting watches and at $1200 or £1200, the price seems very good. You can't tell from the one photo if it's all original or if the case is good but at that price there is a fair amount of leeway.

I was at a watch fair a few weeks ago and a dealer had one at £3500, with bracelet, box, papers etc but still too strong a price for me to even begin negotiation.

I have one in pieces that I must get around to rebuilding...

Hope you get it and it's a good one.

    Cheers, Chris
