    All,

I recently purchased a Speedmaster Day-Date MK 40 Ref. No. 3820.53.26. The bracelet has a few wear marks, and appears to be a replacement. I'd like to source the correct bracelet, but haven't been able to determine whether the 1562 with the 850 end links or the 1560 with the 852 end links is appropriate. I realize that this is one of the "lesser" Speedmasters, but I hope that someone might have some insight. Thank you for your time. I really appreciate the help.

    Best,

    Tim

You can also get the bracelet refinished. My last refinish job was $85.

Thank you. I really enjoy the smaller size, automatic movement, sapphire crystal, and triple date complication. I'm considering it my "gateway Speedy." ;) I'm sure a hand wound, hesalite-crystaled Moonwatch is in the cards at some point. I plan on purchasing Moonwatch Only and doing my research before taking the plunge, though.

I didn't know that was an option. The watch is currently being serviced by an AD here in town. Is the refinishing something that I could ask the AD to do?

Certainly. In fact, they likely will as part of the service. I think that Omega requires that.

    Hi Tim,

Just a few clarifications on the model you have. First off the ref. 38205326 is for this model on a strap, not a bracelet. I looked up the serial number of your watch on the Omega Extranet, and it's actually a ref. 35205300, which is a model on a bracelet.

This watch has 3 bracelets listed for it:

    020ST1560852 - discontinued
    020ST1562850 - discontinued
020ST1563850 - this one is the replacement for the others and is currently available.

So both of the bracelets you referred to are correct for this model, but both are discontinued. You don't say what is on the watch now, but if it is the last one, the 1563850, it is correct for this model.

As noted the bracelet can be refinished at service. If the watch is being sent by your AD to Omega, then this will be parts of the service you are paying for. If the watch is being done locally, then you would have to ask if refinishing is included. Many watchmakers do include it, but I don't since most of the watches I service the collectors do not want refinishing done. I can do it, but it's an additional charge.

I just serviced one of these a few weeks ago, and they are nice watches - nice size and the 7750 based movement inside is typically very accurate.

    Cheers, Al

You can opt out of refinishing if you like, but there is no discount for that.

I'm torn on refinishing when I get a service. I don't mind the scratches and marks and I think they make my watch unique to me, but having it returned to a close-to-factory shine after a service would be nice as well.

If Otto Frei doesn't have what you're looking for, there are also used bracelets for sale on Chrono24. Also discontinued models.

I'm very happy with my MK40. Doesn't feel like a "lesser option" at all. Was looking at the Moonwatch originally, but there are so many of them out there. The MK40 stands out.

Im looking for a bracelet for my Mk40 as well. Love the watch...and with the current weather I wished I had a metal bracelet ;)
Is there any difference between these bracelets?
    Thickness maybe, or screws/pins?
Are there any (original Omega) alternatives?

Try the Grey nato strap 19mm that is on the Omega site. Look very good.
