Hi all,

I just found vintage watches yesterday in Paris. Among them was this weird Sideral chrono. I just know the watch by its design but nothing more. Do you know anything about it, was it a concept or something? Very curious about the story of this watch. Furthermore, is it really in fiberglass, it looks more like plastic...

Thank by advance for your help!

Probably.

Tissot made some interesting concept watches. Some even had plastic movements called 'Autolub.' I keep a movement on my desk which works as a fidget spinner. Hold it for a moment and it starts ticking. Looks more like a child's toy.

I have one which used the rotor weight to spin a small generator and charge the battery (supercap.)

They also made wood and stone (rock) cases. Eventually this evolved into Swatch, which is more Tissot than Omega.

Good find and about what these interesting variations sell for.

We really need that promised Tissot subforum.

Tissot did indeed make the Sideral case out of fiberglass. You found a very cool mid-1970s "bullshead" chronograph, so named because the pushers were located on the top of the watch, resembling a bull's horns:

I guess I can see a resemblance:

Thanks a lot for your reply and your knowledge! I think this one is equipped by a Lemania 872. Very interesting to see how Tissot was trying to explore new horizons at the time.

Thanks for your response and the doc! I see, it is just like the famous Citizen "Bullhead". This watch is definitely special. I wonder if it was a yachting watch considering that they say on the doc that there is a 5 minutes indicator on the minutes counter for the yacht racing.

Yes, Tissot made chronographs for yachting. Look for a Navigator Yachting, and an Regate Yachting with a countdown timer, cobranded with Aquastar

That thing is cool! Well worth what you paid for it, IMHO.

I'd be surprised if it was not a Lemania movement. Meant to note that above.
