Bought a Tropical Omega Genève 166.0173 from 1973 on a whim - what do you think?

Came across this watch at an online auction with 1 minute on the clock. I've been looking for a dresswatch and the tropical dial + 36mm size got me so I pulled the trigger for about $570 all-in.

    Info that I have:
    - 37733716 serial makes it from 1973
    - reference inside case is correct
    - a quick search shows me the hour and minute hands have been replaced (original has a pointy ends, although I did find other examples online with the same hands - maybe someone can help?)
    - original crown + crystal and I think the bracelet is correct too.

See pics below + link to album with more.

I have seen these hands before - I'll bet they are ok for this watch.

My Seamaster 600 has the same type of hands, and a fellow Ω collector in Denmark owns a Geneve, also with "box" hands. They are not that pretty, but I am certain yours are original.

Yeah I think they're definitely from Omega, but I mean original to this watch ref. See: Screen Shot 2018-09-19 at 21.54.06.png

I agree they should be pointy at the end, but not the same as what the example shows from the OVD shows. The dark dials (black and blue - I assume this was once black) would use a painted white hand with lume all the way up the center, and pointed at the end. They are also a bit narrower than these square hands I believe.

Current part number is 065WP1574 for those. Your sweep seconds hand looks okay.

    Cheers, Al

Oh, and it really needs a service by the looks of things...

I assumed it was a faded blue dial. In any case, it's always hard to know with vintage Omega, but I did find some examples with these hands. They could be replacements obviously.

Blue or black doesn't matter - they both use the all white lumed pointy hands according to Omega.
