It was a crazy day today when I was offered 12 vintage watches and managed to acquire 8 pieces.

Curious what makes that Bulova "military", other than the "surplus" case?

I hope I'm not being rude, but the 5719 is a Frankenstein watch. The second hand and bezel are incorrect.

I'm a little curious what sort of collection these fit into? Or are you just accumulating?

The back case has specific inscriptions found in military watches.

Thanks for the concern Lenny. Yes the second hand is incorrect but I think the bezel is original. I also have a 5717 and the only difference is the 5719 has no date function. Other than that, both watches are identical. Some 5719 models also used a plastic bezel found in the 45899s. Maybe that is the bezel you are referring to?

Hi Tom, I do collect the other brands but confined mainly to chronographs, divers and world timers. Thanks.

I'm not convinced that that particular bezel originally came with the 5719. As I understand it, the metal version of the bezel for the 5719 was black, not silver like on the 5717. Also, 5719 =\ 5717. At the very least, they have different hands and bezels.

Murky waters in UN land - they seem ripe for counterfeiters trying to capitalize on the brand's new found luxury status - I almost paid a big noob tax on one, but eBay saved my skin luckily.

May I see it? The dial does not conform to military specifications that I have in my watches and clocks field manual.
