So I paid a couple of £ for this at a boot fair (if you’re American, think yard sale in a field). I thought it might be fun to do things the wrong way round and keep an eye out for the watch to accompany a box. What would the contenders be, please? Can anyone tell the rough date? Ta muchly
If by ‘interesting’ you mean mental lol. Ultimately, all goals are arbitrary. I was hoping 50s Constellations wouldn’t have come in one of these, because that would rob me of the excuse to look for something new!
The approach is admittetly malicious AND brilliant! Will buy me a (any) old Omega-Box this weekend that I don't have a matching watch for
Ha a great approach for rationalizing the purchase of an expensive watch to a SO. "But honey, I already have the box taking up room. I might as well fill it"
I've always been envious of the boot sales you guys have in the UK and throughout Europe. They look like a lot of fun.
Welcome to the forum! Here’s a link to thread which includes your box. Pictures show the insert/stand that came with box. https://omegaforums.net/threads/the-speedmaster-red-box-questions-a-few-observations.39683/
......and vendors thinking that their detritus somehow has incredible value. Nice Cake Avatar by the way @DitchGreen! Very impressive.
GF made that. My 33rd birthday was a couple weeks after the PNPND auction. GF asked me what kind of cake I’d like. I said (half-joking) ‘can you do this?’ She did.
Love the idea of starting from the box - a path toward a 2998 that I can afford! Starting from the box, next thing would be the hoop or cushion to go in it? From there maybe papers? Then finally a 2998, which by that time will be about 10,000x what the box cost
Not really... Very muddy, cold, with bad tea, greasy burgers and grumpy people selling 'a load of old tosh' mate. But it'll all be worth it if I find one desirable vintage watch.
Yeah .. boot sales are 'orrible. I strongly suggest everyone stays away. There's no fun getting up at 5am; driving to a muddy field; and, drinking terrible cappuccinos ...
There's a chap with an old Citroen van that has a La Marzocco in the back. If you can find him, you can get a decent coffee ... all the burger vans just pour water over a packet mix
