    Hello all.

For me, chronographs are getting more and more interesting. Not only am I interested in chronographs, but movements made for them and also non chronograph movements
Have got Lang& Meis book, Chronographs Wristwatches, to stop time. Very interesting and a lot of new and for me very good information/help.

But, I like to learn more, so any suggestions what to get next?
Links on the net is also ok.

    All help/tip is welcome.

    Cheers.

This one is likely out of print. I have included the ISBN number so you can search the 'net for it if interested. This book covers complicated watches, including automatics, repeaters, chronographs, etc. It is written for technicians who want to service these types of watches, so it may not be a book that would be aimed particularly at a collector whose interest doesn't include servicing them. But it would be good for a collector who wants to know how these watches operate.

    COMPLICATED WATCHES AND THEIR REPAIR
    Donald de Carle
    Bonanza Books, New York
    ISBN O-517-29252-1

A quick search here indicates there are two (seemingly) currently for sale.

If you are interested in acquiring a copy, and if the two copies listed in the link above are a/ no longer available, or b/ only the expensive copy is still available and you decide not to buy it, I have TWO copies of the book, and would consider making one available at a reasonable price. PM me.

The book " Omega Speedmaster Apollo Soyuz " by forum-member mstanga has about 16 pages about the 861 movement and its parts...

Marine Chronometers, Its history and Developments, by Rupert Gould, ISBN 978-1-85149-365-4.

Its not cheap but it is 500 pages of history and technical drawings that'll make any precision timepiece geek need a long cold shower.

Written in the 1920s and reprinted half a dozen years ago with Gould's own notes for a proposed update, its full of great pictures and history as well as a lot of fine detail about how we got where we are with marine chronometers. Quite over the top really......

If there are vintage movements that are of interest to you, you might consider picking up one of the 28 volumes of the Esembl-O-Graf series on chronograph repair. Each volume deals with a certain manufacturer's movements. The series came out in 1949, so obviously they only deal with movements developed before then.

Here's a link to a pdf copy of the volume on the Unversal 283, so you can get a feel for what a typical volume covers:

Or you can pick up the entire series in CD format on eBay:

The Esembl-O-Graf books can be found online at archive sites. http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/webbin/book/lookupid?key=ha101673084 Downloads may be US only and the link may not be stable.

My set was missing some volumes Notibly the Val-72C volume. So it was great to find this link. My set was also missing the Universal volumes. I do not have any Universal movements.

For theory there is Francois LeCoultre 'A guide to Complicated watches.' I also like the Jenritzki and B. Humbert theory books as well.
Lang and Meis coffee table book is practically indispensable as it has an appendix of most movements.

Datasheets are also helpful. These can be found at https://watchguy.co.uk/cgi-bin/files?action=documentshttps://watchguy.co.uk/cgi-bin/files?action=documents

If one does get De Carle, it will be seen that he 'borrowed' quite a bit from the above books and the serials in the 'Swiss Horologer' trade magazines.

Landeron movements are cheap and plentiful. Cases though are few and far between. Get some for practice. They are easy to work on. I have a dozen or so myself.
