Hi guys, I'm new to this forum so feel free to correct me if I make any newbie mistakes. I have finally found what I think is the perfect Speedmaster for me, good condition, not too old, box but no papers, original bracelet and all for what I think was a fair price. What I would like your opinion on is whether 2200 CHF (2000 Euro, 2200 USD, 3000 AUD, GBP: Who knows) was a fair price and whether the watch has previously been polished, not a big deal if it has but it's nice to know. I apologise for my dreadful photography skills. Thanks in advance, HC. View attachment 277430
Hello and welcome, your speedy looks very nice and my opinion is that you did not overpay at the prices listed above. Do you have any photos of the movement to make sure everything looks ok in there? I'm not the greatest judge of polishing on the newer speedys but I would take a guess and say that it has been polished.
Looks like a nice unpolished example. Price looks good, but did it come with bracelet or just strap? If no bracelet, then it's not a great deal, but not a terrible one either.
Thanks guys, yes it did come on the original bracelet but I'm having about 56 links taken out. I will get the jeweller to snap a few pics of the movement.
I'm replying "yes" without reading your post. The Speedy is a great watch that will last generations. What you paid doesn't matter when you consider the big picture.
You will have to buy several more bracelets in order to remove that many links! Congrats on the Speedy... you now own a classic & iconic watch.
That is always a question that should not ask after you have handed over the cash. It looks like a nice watch. Enjoy it. Get your money's worth and have a nice time with it.
Thanks everyone. Of course I did my research prior to handing over the cash but I've also had a few Speedies in the past, I just wanted a second (third, fourth and fifth) opinion. It's great having a Speedy Pro back in the collection! HC
According to the son of the original owner it was a replacement watch for a 60's Speedy that "could not be fixed by Omega" Nowadays said watch is probably worth a good 5 times what I paid for the replacement... conspiracy... anyone...?
